The 2nd Annual BlueNC North Carolina Blogger Bash

This is the place for planning our 2nd Annual BlueNC North Carolina Bloggers Bash.

Tag. You're it!

May 2nd It is. Don't want to

May 2nd It is. Don't want to stop anyone from county conventions.

April 18th or May 2nd

Either of those would work.

Somebody choose!

May 2nd

I think there may be County Conventions on the 18th as well. Would put a serious hurting on how many candidates/pols would show up.

Let's go with May 2

First 2/3 weeks of May knocks out many Grad/College students

Who have to deal with exams.

I always wanted to be the avenging cowboy hero—that lone voice in the wilderness, fighting corruption and evil wherever I found it, and standing for freedom, truth and justice. - Bill Hicks

I'll second the 2nd

There doesn't seem to be any conflict, plus there's the whole April showers/May flowers thing. Got a little wet last year...

May 2 is perfect.

I love this - I absolutely love this. Can we have a time to share accomplishments of the past year? It's obvious we have political accomplishments to share. But how maybe some personal ones as well.

I'm really looking forward to this, y'all.

April 25th is J-J.

The county conventions can be held on the 18th or 25th. Our chair set our convention on the 25th before he knew that was the same day as J-J. I'll have to skip J-J. I can't miss our convention. And thanks, Betsy -- we really need you at the convention.

Sweet Union Dem

Ruh roh, Relroy

We may need to see if James can do it on another date...

I can't make it on the 25th.

That's our County Convention and we're expecting fireworks. I have to be there to vote.

Is April 25 is the JJ Dinner?

I have the NCDP Jefferson-Jackson dinner written down on April 25 on my calendar. But I can't find it on the NCDP website. Maybe Jerimee can check on the date for us?

do we have a time set up

do we have a time set up yet?

Let's say 2 pm to 6 pm.

Just to get the ball rolling.

We picked a *day* - now...

...how about a date?

We have a date.

I'm glad to hear this is in the works. I could do either day.

I'll bring a dessert -

And if Greg will allow some help on the vegetarian side of things, I'll bring either veggie chili or lasagna.

What say you, Mr. Flynn?

Your call

But veg chili sounds good

consider it part of the menu then.

I love veg chili.

Okay. So we need to talk

Okay. So we need to talk about catering. I am a college student so I do not have the money to pay up front. We woul either need to find a catering company that would accept payment after the event, or have people on this site who are attending pay in advance.

This is assuming that one of our attendees is not cooking the main dish.

And CH it is. I will need to know where exactly it is but that works for me.

April 25 works also. I had to double check when the OC Convention is but that is the week before so we are goo.

Bring your student ID

and you get in free. But then you're automatically drafted as an (unpaid) intern, which may include (but is not limited to) such tasks as: opening reluctant bottles of wine, chasing renegade puppies and dumping younger people out of chairs so older people can rest their bones.

It's an honor. Really. :)

And If the Governor can make

And If the Governor can make it. That would be awesome. Just saying.....

Although the food is an

Although the food is an important subject. I need to know where y'all want to have this thing. I live in Hillsborough so I would like it to be around that area. I have a few ideas about where to have it but I need approval for the general location y'all want it at.

My house in Chapel Hill

Looks like that's where we're having it.

Size matters

One thing we should start doing is guessing how many people will come. If there are 10 people, we can just wing it. I'm thinking there will be a lot more.

Last year we had Bullocks Barbecue bring chicken, pork, coleslaw and baked beans ... plus tea ... I think. We charged $10 a person which seemed to work well. We can use them again, or someone else. I can make the phone call if I have a number and a date.

Remind me to not be in charge of coleslaw. Last year I put it two giant trays in the garage refrigerator until it was time to eat and ... forgot to bring them out when the food was ready. Duh.

If we're expecting a smallish crowd we could get food from Mediterranean Deli ... it's great Greek food ... but a little more work on our part in terms of set up and clean up.

If it's a large crowd, we need more of a production mindset. Otherwise somebody has to spend all his or her time working.

If it's raining (which it did last year) we can handle 80 people or so. If it's nice out, the sky's the limit.

Other questions.

1. Scholarships? Should we give X people free admission or a chance to work as volunteers?

2. Elected officials (and candidates) get in free.

3. Who should come? If you're wondering whether this event if for you, it is.

4. Fancy name tags?

5. Special guests? The governor's a blogger you know.

I vote for April 25th. That's the last Saturday in April, which is what it was last year. Let's make it a tradition!

(Easter is on the 12th, in case you were wondering.)

J

10 people? :)

I've been to your house at least 5 times James, and I think the smallest crowd I saw was 50+. We should probably do the barbecue thing (I almost drooled typing that), charge whatever per person (except electeds), definitely some sort of nametag (I forgot my own name a couple of times), and I will make my world-famous (very small world) pasta salad.

And for the Governor (if she's reading this), if you show up I will give you my lucky rock. I...don't have a lucky rock right now, but I will find one and give it to you at the thing. If you show up.

Secretary of Vegetarian Affairs

Just as soon as I get my clearance from H&R Block.

Veggie burgers & veggie baked beans like last year. Any requests?

I'll do what I did last year

I basically brought everything we own - folding tables and a couple of teenagers.

I'll also be in charge of inviting our electeds and our candidates..... just like last time. We had a nice crowd of non-bloggers.

I'll also bring a side and a dessert.

I'll move Mo's claim down here

Mo is bringing some canned sodas loaded into a large cooler with ice. She's also bringing a nip of rum.

Thank you ma'am

Are you arranging the grub like last year James or do you want to turn that over to Mr. M. The BBQ was good but we could also do burgers and dogs. The sooner you find out the price the quicker we'll each know how much $$ to kick in. I believe most people want to contribute something so we could have a list to choose from like beverages, sides and desserts.

Saturday or Sunday works for me....March?...April?...May? Later?

Hey If you are serious. I can

Hey If you are serious. I can plan this thing. I didn't join until after lat year's bash so this will be my first one.

Like I said I can plan this if you need help.

Saturday. And Thanks for

Saturday. And Thanks for creating a foum topic for this.

Thanks for suggesting it, Mr. M.

That means you get to take over whenever you want!

:)

Ok - when?

Which is better for most people - Saturday or Sunday?
