2nd District Democratic Conventon
We had a good turnout at the 2nd Congressional District Convention today in Pittsboro. Rep. Bob Etheridge provided Barbeque sandwiches from Howard's and made a fine speech to those in attendance. Wake and Chatham counties offered their usual bushel basket full of resolutions (boy those folks love writing those things, :>) ) but fortunately someone moved that we vote to approve them all bundled together. Thanks to the Chatham Democrats for hosting the event.
Folks Bob has got his strongest opponent in years in Renee Elmers. She is going to be well advised (Carter Wrenn for one is helping her) and well financed (she's worked with AFP so expect Art Pope to be involved) and the political winds are against us. I keep hearing people make statements to the effect that they voted for Bob in the past but will not this time because of HCR and the bailout. We need the folks here at BlueNC to help in any way they can. It's going to be a tough race this time and Bob is a dedicated, honest elected official that always votes in the best interests of the people even when it isn't the safe political move. He stuck his neck out for all of us with his vote on HCR and he hasn't backed down. He is advocating a strong energy bill to end our dependence on foreign oil and that doesn't sit well with many in the district. Please stand up for Bob.
