3rd Anniversary of Robin Hayes Insisting Saddam Hussein was Behind 9/11 Attacks

When you live in or around North Carolina's 8th Congressional District, you will sometimes hear that Robin Hayes is a nice guy. What you never hear is that Robin Hayes is a really bright guy. While it is difficult to single out the dumbest thing the man has ever said, we can narrow it down a bit and this week we celebrate the third anniversary of Robin Hayes' claim that Saddam Hussein and people like him were involved with the attack on America on September 11, 2001.

Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11," Rep. Robin Hayes said.

Told no investigation had ever found evidence to link Saddam and 9/11, Hayes responded, "I'm sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places."

Hayes, the vice chairman of the House subcommittee on terrorism, said legislators have access to evidence others do not.

You might assume that Hayes was saying this as part of a campaign to ramp up fear and to justify the war in Iraq. The problem with that assumption is that before Hayes made this claim, the 9/11 Commission, Senator John McCain and President George W. Bush had all said that there was no known link between Saddam Hussein and the attacks on September 11.

President Bush said in September 2003 that "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11 [attacks]."

Nevertheless, Hayes insisted that the connection between al Qaeda and Saddam and "folks who work for him" has been seen "time and time again."

So, today we can celebrate the anniversary of the day that Robin Hayes went on CNN and made a complete and utter ass out of himself.

Good one, Robin. Attaboy. Way to go. I am sooooo proud.
