$52 million
Athletics at the University of Maryland really used to suck, in my opinion. I know this from having run track against them between 1968 and 1972. Their fans back then were jerks in every sense of the word.
Looks like not much has changed in Terpland.
According to the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post, the ACC claims Maryland will have to pay $52,266,342 — “three times the total operating budget of the Conference,” according to the complaint — to leave for the Big Ten.
A fifty-two million dollar exit fee. Sweet.
