Everyone who has been here for a while knows how hard we, as netroots activists fought to get our fellow bloggers and activists to add Larry Kissell to the Netroots Endorsed Candidates list. We wrote, recommended, commented, jumped, danced, cheered, jeered and pretty much made fools of ourselves and it was all for a calm, quiet, honest, humble man who still can't believe how passionately a group of strangers feels about his candidacy.

Donate to Larry here!

When nominations were opened the first time, I wrote a piece lauding Larry as the perfect Netroots candidate. I posted it on the threads made available and asked folks to go comment on those threads. That time we didn't get the nod. It was OK. There was time. Larry's campaign was just starting to bubble and simmer. It was getting exciting, but hadn't reached a full rolling boil.

At BlueNC.com we are profiling as many Democrats as possible before the November election. Some are willing to fill out questionnaires or sit through interviews. Today I'd like to post links to all of the profiles and interviews we have completed to date.

Those of you who are new to BlueNC are invited to participate. If you know a Democrat running for the NC House, NC Senate or US House and would like to complete a profile or interview please let us know in the comments. If there is a Democrat running for local office in your area and you would like to write a profile, please feel free. This is a huge job, but we want to reach as many Democrats as possible and give them an extra opportunity to get their names out there in a way that won't cost them a dime.

The Southern Dem's good work on behalf of Larry Kissell generated a bit of coverage in the Charlotte Observer for BlueNC yesterday. If you're a new reader, thanks for stopping by our online forum for progressives in North Carolina. You're welcome to register and join the conversation!

Albemarle is the county seat of Stanly County, recently sharing the spotlight with the American Idol star, Kelly Pickler. Albemarle was formed in 1842 when the Hearne family donated their land and it was divided up into plots for the new town. Too many people only know of the Albemarle along 24/27, the Albemarle Road to Charlotte. Get off the beaten path and go downtown and you will find a pretty little town that seems to have made all the right planning choices. Their streets are wide with minimal traffic. There is plenty of parking and the shops that line the streets are locally owned.

There is a regular feature at DailyKos called the frameshop, based on the work of George Lakoff, that seeks good phraseology for fighting republican talking points. Well, I've got a suggestion.

For so long, it seems like every time we turn around we are backpeddling or fighting back against the latest Republican outrage. The latest Rumsfeld comments about Democrats being appeasers is the latest example. Once again, we are faced with the equivalent of "Are not!" or "No, you are!" type comebacks. If you remember back to your elementary playground days you will no that these comebacks are laughable and those that utter them are the biggest of weanies.

As such, my framing suggestions after the break.

It looks like some sad stories just don't know when to end. Mr. Badness himself is in the news again with reports of influence peddling to help out optometrists. Dane Kane at the N&O has the latest story on Jim Black's shady dealings.

Six years ago, Andrew Watry sought legislation to help the N.C. Medical Board do a better job of policing bad doctors. Watry, the medical board's executive director, wanted tougher regulations and a fee increase to hire more staff.

Democracy took a sucker punch this week when the North Carolina State Board of Elections voted to allow the sale of legislative seats to fat-cat corporations. In an embarrassing display of incompetence, board chairman Larry Leake and his hapless colleagues went through the motions of hearing Richard Morgan's complaint with barely a nod in the direction of decorum or seriousness. Loony Larry even had this to say to a reporter from the Southern Pines Pilot:

Asked if the board could not really have ruled just the same way in about 20 minutes - without all the testimony and argument - Leake just smiled.

"Maybe five," he said. "But people have a right to a hearing."

I'll bet he smiled ... just like he did throught the sham hearing ... pretending to be taking the matter seriously, but having already made up his mind. This comment alone would seem sufficient for overturning the decision on appeal.

But in addition to having a closed, narrow mind, Mr. Leake failed We the People on many other fronts. For example . . .

Once again, I find myself apologizing for a really whimpy attempt at bringing you the funnies this morning. Everybody jump in the comments and let us know what is making you giggle. In my tribute to those trying to work for a living..........

Bragg expects another big cut

By Henry Cuningham
Military editor

After scrimping and saving in 2006, the people who operate Fort Bragg are looking for ways to get by on about 14 percent less money in fiscal year 2007.

Fort Bragg's operating budget has been cut $14 million this year and another $57 millon next year. These cuts are being made as the population of Fort Bragg is going to increase due to the new Brac assignments. Employee's are being laid off, hiring frozen, contracts cut.

Aside from ignoring Shuler's lead in four polls, CQPolitics.com published a well-written article for your Saturday reading pleasure:

"Shuler — a native of North Carolina’s mountainous west who was a football star at the University of Tennessee before a less-successful pro career — is staging a serious bid to unseat eight-term Republican Rep. Charles H. Taylor. Now a real estate executive, Shuler also is one of a very few strong Democratic takeover candidates in the South, a one-time party stronghold that has shifted strongly to the Republicans since the 1960s.
