A celebration is in order

I received this invitation from one of my favorite NO-OLF Grannies, Doris, who has helped to lead the charge in stopping the Navy from running roughshod over Washington County. I do so wish I could attend this celebration.

The North Carolinians Opposed to the Outlying Landing Field (No-OLF) cordially invites you to attend an evening of celebration in honor of our elected officials, the media, and all the individuals and organizations that have unselfishly worked to protect the Albemarle/Pamlico Peninsula from the Navy’s proposed outlying landing field.

The citizens of Washington and Beaufort Counties would like to show our appreciation for your support and perseverance, which has resulted in the preservation of our wildlife, farms, communities, and, way of life. But, most importantly our united front has gained an important victory for the people of America, which truly deserves a “Blessed Celebration”.

Every community member who has written, read or commented on any OLF post in the blogosphere is a critical part of the grassroots effort that led to this extraordinary victory.

Congratulations to you all.

Blessed Celebration Dinner, Saturday, March 29, 2008, 5:00 PM, Beasley’s Barn, 25286 Hwy. 32 N., Plymouth, NC.

Please add your congratulations on this thread!

We're doing college visits (daughter and dad) that weekend in the mountains, so I won't be able to join this wonderful event. But I thought it might be nice for all to post their well wishes and encouragement here. I know the OLF folks will be checking the site - and they'll be very happy to read whatever words you want to share.

I wanted to send my heartfelt thanks and congratulations

to the The North Carolinians Opposed to the Outlying Landing Field group. I truly appreciate everything you have done to affect this outcome. Enjoy your celebration!

Best regards,

No OLF!

My thanks and congratulations, too.

You all are a powerful inspiration and a symbol of what's possible in politics these days. Thank you for all you're doing to protect our communities and families and farms and environment from being trampled by the arrogance of power.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to the citizens of Beaufort and Washington counties who fought the federal government when it was wrong--and won! I was proud to support you in your fight.

My heartfelt Congratulations - and continued support!

I hope you all know that you have North Carolinians from all over the state with you. None of us want to see an OLF in any part of NC. You brought it to our attention. Your voice made it real to us. Your voice has mattered, and will continue to matter - don't stop! Keep on keeping on!

The OLF "grannies" as well as a lot of

hard working and caring people were in this fight long before I got involved. I joined in the fight toward the middle.

Thanks to all the people who established this 16 county NO OLF coalition. The strength in unity established by the simple country folks of Washington, Beaufort, Perquimans, Hyde, Craven, Bertie Counties enabled the overwhelming support of the State as well as numerous country wide organizations to join in the fight. You worked extremely hard for your "small junk of happiness" and deservedly should celebrate keeping what is yours!

I am looking forward to being at the shindig at the Beasley's Barn. Will be the first time I have been there without the spectre of an OLF looming over that building. To be able to look out over the fields and know that the land I see will stay in the hands of North Carolinians and not be taken from them. To know that I helped in a small way. To know that all the people there helped or were helped by our collective actions over the last 8+ years.

The last time I was there, a farmer was pleading with Senator Burr and Dole's representatives to do something so he could keep his land. He was on his knees crying and pleading with them to send his message to our reps to help us. I hope that farmer is there 29 March with more tears but this time tears of joy knowing he can keep what he has worked so hard for.
