Action Alert: Where I make it really easy.
Recently, a group of activists had the chance to discuss "non-profit education of legislators" with a Raleigh lobbyist. His suggestions:
- Each legislator must be contacted at least ten times to stir interest.
- The legislative assistants receive the emails and pass on those of interest.
- The content of the message is secondary to having each SUBJECT LINE being informative and THE SAME.
In light of this advice, I'm giving y'all this LINK. This link will open your email browser and create a new message, address it to the MASS EMAIL HOUSE list that each legislator receives, give you a subject line, and BCC it to me. From there, you can cut and paste what I wrote below the break, which I sent in a similar letter, or you can write your own information.
See, wasn't that easy?
Dear House of Representative Member,
I am writing to ask for your sponsorship and support of Rep. Verla Insko's "Health Care for All" bill. Our health care system is in a shambles. Meanwhile, a recent poll showed that 51% of North Carolinians support "a universal health insurance program, where everyone is covered under a program like Medicare that is run by the government and financed by taxpayers". Another poll showed that 61% favored having the state government sponsor a plan to provide health insurance for everyone. Why?
- 48 Million Uninsured Americans, in a system that demands it.
- 17 Million Underinsured Americans, who use health care only when it is too late.
- Over 250,000 Uninsured Children in North Carolina.
- More than half of individual bankruptcy filings in NC related to medical bills, with about three-quarters of those individuals health-insured at the time they got sick.
- A country that spends twice as much per capita on health care than other developed countries, yet ranks lower in health outcomes.
- A system where 2/3 of health care spending is financed by public dollars, where private insurance companies announce record-breaking profits, yet 65 million go without the insurance they need to be healthy.
The CITIZENS of North Carolina are ready for Health Care for All, and Rep. Insko's bill gives them an Up or Down Vote. If the bill is passed, the people will be faced with this choice at the ballot box:
[ ] FOR [ ] AGAINST
Constitutional amendment providing that health care is a fundamental right.
If they decide that health care is a fundamental right, then it will be up to the state government to decide how best to implement Health Care for All. This bill does not provide a plan, it does not say we MUST have this or that, it simply gives the voters the chance to decide for themselves whether it is a fundamental right, much like a primary education for our children was deemed a fundamental right. While other plans offer high-cost Band-Aids, that do nothing to actually fix the system, Health Care for All offers the best chance at a fiscally and morally responsible plan dedicated to providing the best chance at good health for all North Carolinians.
Please contact Rep. Verla Insko (Verlai@ncleg.net) and let her know that YOU will be co-sponsoring Health Care for All this session.
Thank you for your time.

Ten more emails today.
That's my goal, help make it happen folks.
We have a state-wide network doing all kinds of good work today. Calling physicians and community leaders, emailing activists, contacting PNHP members, asking our endorsing organizations to get involved.
The numbers are finally on our side, we can make this happen.

Done
That would've been the easiest thing I'd ever done if I weren't on someone else's computer with the default email set to some archaic Outlook.
But I got it into my Yahoo! mail and away it went!

If I end up with a lot of spam I'll know where it came from. I never use my default email. ;)
People can feel free to remove my BCC if they wish...
that way they won't receive my weekly "Cats in the News" emails.
Just kidding.

Cats are cool - bring it on.
Seriously - I signed up to access the Chicago Trib on line and I've been hammered by spam ever since. By Name.
But Yahoo does a good job of catching it. delete.delete.delete.
someone just added a blogroll item about cats...
that's why it was on my mind.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
How long before they shut down that House-wide email?
I'd like to see 100 emails go out today and just flood it.
