As far as I know, Gore is the 'highest' ranking Democrat who has stated unequivocally that all human beings should have equal rights, regardless of their orientation.

biggest misconception about 2000
The vast majority of Nader voters were not Gore voters. They were people who would not have showed up at all.
Besides which, the real loss of votes was from the illegal actions of Katherine Harris. Not because of democracy.
