Arrested at NC State Fair for Holding Impeach Bush Cheney Sign
NC Peace activist arrested for holding an Impeach Bush Cheney sign at the NC State Fair. Freedom of speech in North Carolina isn't free - you have to buy a "permit".
Andy is the second person I know of arrested for holding an "Impeach Bush Cheney" sign.

Andy Silver was booted Saturday for carrying a sign that called for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Silver is with the Grassroots Impeachment Movement.
"I was told I can never come back to the State Fair," Silver said. "They said they needed to expel me because my sign might anger people and that someone might attack me. I was told I would be arrested for trespassing and taken to jail if I came back."
Police say Silver got the hook when he refused to give up his sign.
Andy Silver is not a crack pot, he is a highly educated professional who feels a moral duty to speak out.
At least the News and Observer showed Andy holding the sign. GO ANDY! I respect you tremendously for your courage and integrity in your activism.

Did those two cops from Asheville make a
special trip to Raleigh just to arrest Mr. Silver?
Tip o' the hat to Mr. Silver; that took some guts.

Because it might anger someone?
Goodness Gracious. Let's not get anyone angry.
People have the right to see the sign. If folks are offended - oh well. No guarantees against that.

Could one wear an "Impeach Bush" bumpersticker on one's tush?
I would hope that in light of the announcement that people wearing shirts to advocate Bush's impeachment is "Ok," we might see a healthy sprinkle of those in the days left. The Democrat's booth ought to sell 'em.

Makes me want to go to the fair, now.
I usually avoid it like the plague - because I'm pretty sure the plague might be lurking there!

Come to the Fair later today!
Barring any major malfunction on my part (hopelessly lost, alien abduction, etc.), I will be volunteering at the NCDP booth from 4:30 to 7:30 this afternoon, ready to answer any questions people might have.
As long as those questions are: "What is your name?" and/or "What is your favorite color?". I'm a little concerned about being caught flip-flopping on the second question, so I'm going to write the word BLUE across my forehead with a blue Sharpie. :)
I"m really tempted to make a Monty Python joke here.
but when I consider that you are one of our newly blue brethren, I certainly understand.
I am spending the afternoon in lovely Raeford, NC. I doubt I can make it to Raleigh by 7:30.
Don't get the plague. Sign up voters. Lots of them.

I lived in Raeford for over five years
when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg.
Nothing stifles the appetite better than seeing the colorful smocks of the House Of Raeford employees standing outside of their building taking a smoke break. It's probably the closest I've ever come to becoming a vegetarian. (gak)
No Kidding!
And sometimes with all the feathers it looks like it's snowing.
Raeford is an interesting place - things are changing fast here because so many new people are moving in because of BRAC and the expansion of Ft. Bragg.

I can see needing to get a permit to carry a sign.
I don't necessarily agree with it, but I know it's something that you have to do, sometimes.
I can't imagine why he'd be told he could never come back to the State Fair. Never ever? Just not that night? Do we know any more about this story?

As soon as the ACLU got word of this story,
the state fair changed it's mind, Andy is now welcome back and can even have an impeachment booth.

Funny how that works.
Glad they changed their mind. Otherwise we might have had to go all Jersey on them or something. :-D

We might want to anyway,

I must have handed out
at least 500 Democratic Party stickers at the booth this afternoon/evening, and the one that says, "I'm the Decider-Dems '08" was a total hit.
Not to mention, they paired me up with an unbelievably cute girl on my shift. :)
For this reason, and possibly some other less important ones, the NCDP has earned my undying loyalty.
Heh.
boys are so easy. Give them a little freedom of speech, and some stickers to hand out, and they get all loyal on you.
Oh. Yeah. Right. The totally cute girl. :) Go SC.
