Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy: "I'm standing with Elaine Marshall!"
Huge endorsement out of Asheville for Elaine Marshall as she continues to unite Democrats ahead of the June 22nd runoff. Mayor Terry Bellamy, the youngest mayor ever elected in Asheville and the first African American to hold the office, announced her support for Elaine Marshall Saturday.
Elaine Marshall's been an independent voice in North Carolina, standing up and standing firm for what is right. Elaine's public service-oriented and dedicated at her core to serving our state and people—not the narrow interests of party, or the wishes of the powerful. That's the type of courageous and independent leadership we need in the U.S. Senate...
In this deep recession, with so many hurting, I've decided to support Elaine because I know she stands on the side of working and middle class families!

Progressive Strongholds
like Asheville and the triangle and elsewhere I imagine will have the best turnout for an off-year, run-off to a primary election. So I'm glad to hear another leader in one of those areas has come out in support of Elaine.
To get a rough idea of where the progressive strong holds are, here is the 2008 Presidential Election Results:

For comparison here is the map of the first primary results:

If I recall correctly Marcus got the darker green county around his home area, Ken got the few lighter green ones near where he works, Cal got the purple ones largely around his old district, and Elaine took the state with the blue counties. Just by eye-balling it, it looks like the Elaine-Ken team took most of the blue counties from that first map.
In some places its almost like a jigsaw puzzle. If you lay the purple of the second map over the first map you only overlap like 2 of the blue counties. I wonder if the red counties will turn out so heavily for a run off?
