Behold, waters shall rise up...

It ain't just a theory, it's happening now:

Water is rising three times faster on the N.C. coast than it did a century ago as warming oceans expand and land ice melts, recent research has found. It's the beginning of what a N.C. science panel expects will be a 1-meter increase by 2100.

Storms, Young said, are "the hammer" of rising seas. As storm surges pound ashore on a higher base of water, their damage multiplies. The Outer Banks, some scientists predict, could disintegrate into a string of high spots - Avon, Buxton, Ocracoke - reachable only by boat.

And almost completely ignored by the media is the continued warming of the 21st Century:

Both NASA and NOAA recently announced that global temperatures in 2010 tied those in 2005 to make both the warmest years on record. It also means that the aughts started off the millennium with 9 of the 10 warmest years on record.

I WANT TO BELIEVE

There are other points of view and datasets.

Never hurts to read, does it?

It's GLOBAL WARMING...

....not just in the US (it's idiotic to focus on the US temperatures only or any one area, that's as dumb as seeing snow in NC and saying all this global warming is BS).

Another concern is that the GLOBAL TEMPERATURE was tied with 2005 but during a low in solar energy hitting the earth.

I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.

No Piper, it doesn't hurt

to read, or to exercise skepticism about what you're reading.

And just to set matters straight, there is a conspiracy to suppress information proving the existence of extraterrestrials. :)

You made me laugh

Thanks for the chuckle, came at a great time.....

Interesting post

steve, the skepticism link has been posted before. Interesting that they use NCDC claims then just as James Watts does now. 18 months between data releases and the story from July 2009 has been completely changed by NCDC themselves. The 2009 article just doesn't hold up anymore. It's a moving target, isn't it?

The target's not moving

quite as far as some people would like to believe, Piper. If you gather up all the (different) denial arguments and try to assemble them together, you'll see they contradict each other blatantly:

There is no warming trend.

There is a warming trend, but it's a naturally occurring phenomenon, not man-made.

Even if it's man-made, the results will balance between good and bad.

Atmospheric carbon build-up has little to do with warming.

Atmospheric carbon build-up causes warming, but man's contribution is small compared to nature's.

One thing all these arguers have in common is their steadfast belief that there is some sort of conspiracy that is leading the vast majority of scientists down the wrong path, yet, at the same time, these folks refuse to acknowledge the obvious and easily understandable efforts by the fossil fuel industry (via organizations like the Heartland Institute) to deny and obfuscate this issue.

That would be merely sad if it wasn't such an important issue. But it is, so that makes it dangerously sad.

Play the piper?

You're wasting your breath.
