Best comment of the week
Don Moore in 1989: "They been using asbestos since 1858. Is this the first case of mesothelioma they've discovered?"
From a thread at Ed Cone's place, responding to another commenter who wrote:
They have been fracking in the Mid-West for over 30 years. Is this the first well to discover pollution?

What They Said
Good on, James!
I got a chuckle, Billy :)
It's amazing how far people will go to defend the indefensible.
"It's amazing how far people
"It's amazing how far people will go to defend the indefensible."
No one who is a reader of the posts here should be amazed. We see that sort of thing passed off as content material on this blog virtually every day.
Defense of the undefended
In case you hadn't noticed, virtually all of our posts here deal with issues and policies that negatively impact the lives of this or that group of people. Even (most of) the strictly partisan political attacks.
And yes, I will go pretty damned far in advocating for those folks, because their situation is evidence enough (to me) that not enough has been done along those lines.
Yes, the hysteria and
Yes, the hysteria and hilarity factor of the posts on display here daily is truly an amazing accomplishment.
I am sorry but the inference
I am sorry but the inference from Moores comment is to call into question peoples dying from exposure to asbestos. How is that the best comment of the week?
As to fracking in the midwest for 30 years...poppy cock. I have obviously missed the point of the two comments being "best" for progressives that is unless of course you agree with the Governor of Texas that the EPA needs to be eliminated. Doesn't seem at all Blue to me.
It was a fake comment
After Don Moore posted the thing about fracking, Billy posted a satirical comment, supposedly from a historical Don Moore, questioning the dangers of asbestos, demonstrating that a future Don Moore will look just as foolish sometime in the (hopefully near) future when the fracking chemical problem becomes common knowledge.
I'm here to help.
True that
I keep forgetting that sarcasm and snark often get lost in translation, especially when part of an ongoing conversation that new folks my not have followed.
Rest assured, the proprietors of BlueNC stand squarely against fracking, as well as the gutting of environmental regulations in the pursuit of profit.

ahhhh ....then it was just to
ahhhh ....then it was just to be cute. Cute and ever so clubby.
Cute?
No just clubby. I spend six or seven hours a day keeping fresh stuff on BlueNC so anonymous people like you will feel excluded and ignorant.
Gosh! I'm feeling a lot like a Republican right now!
/snark

I'm an infrequent commenter/poster to this site...
...but every time I've had something to say, people have been nice. I don't think it's clubby.
It may seem that way because a few people put up a lot of stuff...but if you have something to add to the conversation I expect they will welcome it.
Yes, thank you
Adding to the conversation is exactly why we started allowing anonymous comments. We get weekly statistical reports showing how many people have visited/viewed the site, and it was plain the reader:commenter ratio was way off.
But we also know that ramping up the reader interaction will likely result in more instances of miscommunication such as what happened above. Hopefully it won't discourage the anon (or anybody else) from participating.
Not "clubby"?
"Clubby" can mean many things, of course, but one thing is for sure here on BlueNC and that is that any post that even hints at not agreeing with the beliefs of the administrators here is normally taken to task. And, that is not just from the administrators but by those that seek those administrators' acceptance.
So, in that way, this is a very "clubby" blogsite. Interesting to read, though.
Very funny
I don't know of anyone who needs or wants "acceptance" from administrators, assuming you mean me since this is my blog.
In six years, only a handful of individuals have been blocked from posting, all for different reasons (i.e., one person was flat-out crazy, one had an abortion fetish, one was a compulsive liar, one plagiarized other websites).
Maybe you should consider this hypothesis: I wonder if the sense of agreement you detect is a function of people having a common philosophy, which could be what brings them to BlueNC in the first place.
Truth be told, I'd love it if BlueNC had more diversity of views. That would give me more arguments to win!
: )
Anyway, thanks for the comment ... and welcome to the club.
