Bev Perdue Wants You to Believe She had it Tough Growing Up

Jim Morrill of the Charlotte Observer had a short profile piece on Bev Perdue today. In it, he wrote:

"Perdue, the daughter of a coal miner, was elected in 2000. Before that she served seven terms in the legislature. Despite that, most North Carolinians don't know much about her."

Here's the thing, Bev Perdue's father owned the coal mine! Perdue ran an ad entitled "Coal Miner's Daughter" when she first ran for Lt. Governor in 2000. Bob Geary of the Indy and Joshua Micah Marshall (writing for Salon at the time) both eviscerated her for it. Marshall called it the "Lie of the Week" in his campaign coverage.

To further establish her "poor" upbringing, the ad focused in on a soot-covered man in a picture who turned out to not be Perdue's father and used a house that Perdue didn't live in. The house wasn't even in her hometown. You won't be surprised to hear that the ad was produced by none other than Kevin Geddings. I've gotten laughing calls from people around the state who have said that Perdue is still claiming to be a coal miner's daughter. But I didn't think it could be true until I read the Observer this morning. Does she think everyone just forgot?

Oh wow

Some of us didn't even know. I guess this is something I'll tuck away. It's a shame. I'm trying to keep an open mind even though most of what I hear in private I don't like. I have done absolutely no research on Moore.

Initially, I had a knee-jerk reaction to something she did, but I've tried to back down and not choose until I've really looked into both/all candidates running. I'm going to fix your links for you.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Looks like the Moore-Perdue battle

is already gettin' nasty.

Don't worry, though, it's going to get a LOT worse than this. Which is exactly why the whole frickin' primary contest is such a colossal waste of time, energy and money. Of course, Shiva could be a supporter of the Ambulance Chaser (Graham), the Asphalt King (Smith) or Hissoner (Orr).

What a mess.

That's the fact, Jack.

I can't think of anything to rhyme with A. That's the case, Jase. That's the truth, Bruce. That's the scene, Gene. See my problem?

That's the fray, A?

That's the spray, A. OK...you're right. Nothing quite works.

F#@%!n A, A!

What? So Bev is a coal miner's daughter like Cheney is a rancher like Bush is a Texan. Got it.

No, Bev is.......

like Cheney is a good shot, like Shrub is a rancher. :)
