Beware of the Blog
From Think Progress:
Kathleen Parker: If We Don’t Ignore Blogs, We’ll Die
In today’s Orlando Sentinel, right-wing columnist Kathleen Parker provides a clear headed assessment of the blogosphere:Each time I wander into blogdom, I’m reminded of the savage children stranded on an island in William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies.” Without adult supervision, they organize themselves into rival tribes, learn to hunt and kill, and eventually become murderous barbarians in the absence of a civilizing structure.
…When a mainstream journalist stumbles, they pile on like so many savages, hoisting his or her head on a bloody stick as Golding’s children did the fly-covered head of a butchered sow.
…Incivility is their weapon and humanity their victim.
…We can’t silence them, but for civilization’s sake - and the integrity of information by which we all live or die - we can and should ignore them

< Same parphase quote from King George 3 rd minister of proganda claiming that they should ignore Thomas Paine and his dirty little book " Common Sense" in the pre-revolutionary America Colonies>

Revolutionary War.
Piling On
I think, if anything, the blogosphere is too light on the old-fashioned media forms. What would happen if each time the NYT or WP or Raleigh News & Observer printed some Bush talking point without checking it out, WE REALLLY POUNCED. Thousands of emails, thousands of calls, cancelled subscriptions, letters to their progressive advertisers.
There is so much more the blogs could do if they were better organized and more geared towards action than bitching.
I absolutely agree....
but I'm much better at bitching than being organized. I'll have to pick up paper copies of the WaPo and the Times to check out their advertisers. Not a bad idea at all. Money always talks.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.
...and
it would be so easy to organize between DailyKos, TPM, MyDD, Wonkette, etc.
Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Keeping People Informed is Action
You are right to a certain extent. When applicable I try to include links to where more information or action can be taken. We are also trying to build the calendar on the left side of the page into a place where progressive groups can place events to get more publicity.
However, the mere act of keeping people informed is action in and of itself. There is no left wing media like Fox is for the Right. The blogs need to keep events or actions that slip through the MSM in the spotlight. Any other action that comes out of them is gravy.
Sure,
I agree. There is the perfect world, then there is the world we live in, where blogs offer insight to the left for the FIRST time in a generation. Not since Kronkite have we had a truly liberal media.
