Black hole

Under the Dome reports today the results of a poll on the Black-Jordan race in Mecklenberg. The poll was done by the same right-wing partisan hacks who do polling for the the Art Pope Puppetshow, which means the data are nothing more than wishful thinking. It's amazing these guys keep spending money on this kind of crap.

The new survey for Hal Jordan, a Republican running against Black in the Mecklenburg County district, indicates a dead heat with about a month to go before Election Day. Jordan says the poll has him getting 34 percent of votes to Black's 32 percent. The remaining 34 percent were undecided.

The survey of 300 likely voters was conducted Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 by Tel Opinion Research, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Jordan is a software salesman for IBM who has been active in local Republican politics. He was recruited to challenge Black.

34% undecided? Holy sh*t. Even with Tel-Opinion's patented push polling? Whoever recruited Hal Jordon must have been scraping the bottom of the Republican barrel - and that's pretty low.

In any case, I hope the poll is true. I hope Jim Black gets his ass handed to him on November 7th. And I hope all North Carolina Democratic elected officials look in the mirror and ask themselves how they could have been so stupid to stand by and let this happen. But I also hope the Democrats retain control of the House. Because no matter how badly some Democrats have behaved, Republican leadership would be an unmitigated disaster.

All we know about this poll is that the company that did it does a ton of very bad polling.

Questions? Universe? Method?

"Keep the Faith"

The N&O never reports on their crappy methodology

but their basic approach is what we call 'churn and burn'. They have automated dialers and they keep going until they get a live person who will talk. No disciplined sampling (to my knowledge), no call backs, no in-house randomization. It's cheaper that way, of course, and if there's one thing Republicans love, it's cheap.

Plus their approach to question wording, how do I say this politely, sucks royally. I'm guessing Black has a 12-15 point advantage at least.

Are you serious? Thats not a poll.

"Keep the Faith"

Have to agree with you Anglico

I hope the Dems sweep to major victory in November, taking every seat in the House - except for Black's seat and the 31 GOP-held seats that we foolishly left unopposed.

Barring that, assuming the Dems retain control of the House, I hope there is a majority of the House Dems who will stand up to Jim Black and vote for someone else as Speaker in 2007. He has been a stain on the party long enough.

GregFlynn, got the bumper sticker in the mail today

Tonight is debate between all local candidates. Will put this on my truck and proudly park where it can be seen. BLACK MUST GO!

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Sorry it took so long

Brain, envelope and stamp finally got in alignment.
