BlackOut-NC is trying to figure out who the 23 or 24 pro-Jim Black Democrats are and which 44 or 45 are willing to shift the paradigm in Raleigh. Contact your representative to ask if she/he will commit to voting for anybody but Jim Black for Speaker of the House, then go leave the name, district, and disposition in a comment section at BlackOut-NC or email them at ethicalgov A T yahoo D o T com.

I suppose that many Democrats would be willing to admit publicly they plan to vote for someone besides Black only if they are assured that he is gonna lose. Otherwise, the payback could be hell - no one wants to be on the wrong side of the new speaker.

...but I don't want him to have a hand in picking his successor. He could pick the nicest, smartest, most honest, most decent person on earth and that person would be tainted by Black's endorsement.

Black still aims to have control over his successor

Black, 71, announced his decision after having dinner with about 25 House Democrats at a Raleigh restaurant. He said their focus in next year's legislative session should be on the issues facing the state, such as education and mental health - and not who is leading the party. Black added he plans to be involved in choosing his successor, a decision he doesn't expect House Democrats to make until January.

"It's wide open and everybody will make their case," he said.

He can no longer bring in the big bucks, he's no longer speaker. I don't think he can control anyone. Now, he can help choose someone too much like him. I still say we need to send emails/letters/faxes to our Dem reps.
