Cal Cunningham, Economics, and Western NC

Since high school, I’ve been interested in economics and economic development, and I grew up camping, hiking, and traveling to Western NC with my family, so yesterday when Cal Cunningham began his roundtable on Western North Carolina economic development, I was all ears.

And it was a great discussion. With a diverse group of including the Dean and Associate Dean at the College of Business of Western Carolina University, several small business owners, and a United Steelworkers member from a local paper mill, folks touched on everyday business challenges to high finance.

500 supporters help Cal kick off U.S. Senate Race

It was great to see over 500 supporters turn out for Cal’s hometown campaign kick-off event in Lexington last night. It felt like a big family gathering, and Cal even led folks in singing Happy Birthday to a member of his staff. He spoke directly with the community that helped to raise him and reiterated his commitment to work on their behalf in the U.S. Senate for a prosperous economy, better schools, and a restoration of American values abroad.

When Cal Cunningham entered the Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee Meeting at the Durham Convention Center today, the enthusiasm just surged. All along the entrance hall, volunteers cheered, clapped, and pumped their fists as Cal made his way toward the SEC ballroom. The cheers for Cal filled the hall, and I thought to myself, ‘this is really a great event to be a part of.’
