We need a Martin Luther
Submitted by carolinablue on Sun, 08/22/2010 - 11:28amFirst of all, sorry about not posting for so long. I’ve been ill, and I’m just getting around to pretending to be normal.
Sociologically speaking, the American Dream is a religion – a civil religion, but a religion nonetheless. We have the Bill of Rights taking the spot of the Ten Commandments; we have heaven and hell in the form of wealth and poverty; and our politicians and pundits are our clergy. (Does that make the President the Pope?) Hell, we even have witch hunts of “socialists” as enemies of the religion who are, much like the original witch hunts, entirely innocent of the accusation.
Of Ponies & Men
Submitted by carolinablue on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 8:38pmApparently, some people think wanting a robust public option, opening Medicare to everyone, or exempting states who want their own single-payer option from employer taxes is like asking for a pony. Because these things, despite their success and cost savings in other countries, will somehow break the national bank. Right. The Kucinich amendment, in particular, actually passed committee, so obviously that means it has no support and it's just whining to want it included at least as a floor amendment.
The point is, though, it's still being fought for. Thanks to Michael Moore, here's some contact info:
