We are at a very critical time of the year; candidates are filing for offices all over the state. Primary elections are right around the corner and as an officer of the Lenoir County Democratic Party, I feel it is important to try and communicate to the public who we are and what we believe and where we stand on the issues.

The fight against Non Partisan elections just heated up a little bit. As reported by the Kinston Free Press and others (http://www.kinston.com/news/federal-79724-kinston-voting.html) The Justice Department has softened its stance on the Non Partisan referendum.

I want to thank Governor Perdue for her service to our state. I'm not really sure how to feel about her not running, so I won't discuss all the thoughts swirling in my head. I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude to her for trying her best to make North Carolina the state I love a better place for everyone.

Check out the website at http://www.rouseforhouse.com. It is time that we finally put an end to Walter Jone's reign in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District. Since 1994 he has sat in Congress and done absolutely nothing for eastern North Carolina.

Yesterday was a great day for the North Carolina Democratic Party. The 2nd Annual Gantt Watt Reception was as we young folk tend to say "Off The Hook". I had the privilege of being around a lot of strong passionate Young Democrats and some not so young democrats. All gathered to honor Harvey Gantt and Mel Watt. Two Titans of North Carolina politics. Being at the reception I felt like in away that Generation is passing the torch to the next Generation of political leaders.

CHAIRMAN'S MONDAY MEMO

Budget Tour Kicks off in Burlington
This is the first of a weekly correspondence to keep you updated with issues important to the Republican Party in North Carolina.

As I write this, I am preparing to travel to Burlington for the first in a series of trips that mark the beginning of Republicans giving the people of North Carolina their state government back. Burlington resides inside Senate District 24, currently occupied by Democrat Tony Foriest. Today I will be joined by Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger and Republican House Leader Skip Stam. I proudly stand with these leaders who were a strong voice of opposition to the liberal-led legislature and in particular, this year's budget that raised taxes by a billion dollars. Together we will send a unified message that a Republican victory in 2010 will return control of their state to where it rightfully belongs, to the people.

I was very impressed by both Cal Cunningham and Kenneth Lewis. Both of these men are very talented individuals who clearly have the best interest of North Carolinian's in mind when they decided to run for US Senate against the Weak and Ineffective Richard Burr. Either candidate would be more than a match for Burr and would give us our best chance ever at getting TWO Democratic Senators in the Senate. I sensed that everyone in attendance felt the same way.
