Thanks to everyone that kicked off our massive volunteer push both in-district and at HelpLarry.com in a big, big way this weekend. We're off to a phenomenal start, and with this momentum will definitely be the talk of the nation come November 8th, all thanks to you.

I'd also like to thank everyone that came out for some good bar-be-que, good Gospel music and good fellowship Friday night with Congressman Hefner too. He is such a straight shooter, and it was so refreshing to hear him tell the crowd how he regretted his vote for the NAFTA experiment. Quite a stark contrast to my opponent that recently told Fox News he hasn't made a mistake in 8 years.

Hi friends!

I just got back from a day of church and visiting folks, and wanted to say hello before the week gets started again.

I'm traveling quite a bit around the district now, meeting new and old friends, bringing our message of hope straight to the people of the 8th District. Just yesterday, our team had a wonderful time at the Peach Festival. Tina and I got to walk in the parade beforehand, and the response was just inspiring.

I'm sorry my opponent couldn't attend, but as DC's House Race Hotline reports, we have him on the run now, hiding his association with President Bush.

Some Republican friends and supporters of mine just shared a letter with me they got in the mail today. It was a fundraising letter from the NC Senators on behalf of my multi-millionare opponent, Robin Hayes. It was full of the usual Republican rhetoric and scare tactics, but I was suprised to read their assement of the race between Congressman Hayes and myself only to find myself nodding in full agreeement.

Dear Friend,

We're not on the ballot this year, but the stakes could not be greater...

...Robin is facing his toughest re-election battle yet and needs your help.

This seat was drawn for a Democrat to win, and they want it back. In fact, Robin is one of the Democrat's top targets for defeat this year...

Hi gang.

Just wrapping up from an incredible trip to D.C. I had a lot of meetings and it was amazing to see the support growing for our campaign. Congressman Brad Miller was kind enough to hold a breakfast fundraiser for our campaign that was very nice. He and his staff are great and were very kind to us. The entire NC Democratic delegation is a wonderful group of folks. Congressman Rahm Emanuel, Chair of the DCCC, was a surprise special guest and I certainly was pleasantly surprised that he said he had just mailed us a $5,000 check for our efforts!

It's great to see everyone in DC finally coming to realize what we've known in the 8th District all along. We're going to win in November.

Greetings again to all my friends in the NC blogosphere. I just wanted to take a minute this afternoon to wrap up a very exciting week for the campaign and thank all of you that have blessed my run with your attention, support and tireless efforts.

What a week! BlueNC breaking our incredible poll numbers was just the beginning.

Thanks in no small part to the indomitable spirit and savvy of one Southern Dem, the national attention on our too-long overlooked, about-to-turn-blue chunk of North Carolina is exploding.

"Flat-out, completely, horizontally opposed to CAFTA..."

That was our current Representative's promise to North Carolina's 8th District last summer in the weeks, days and hours leading up to his 'Yea' vote to send our working families’ livelihoods south of the border as he crumbled to Presidential arm-twisting.

Now when our struggling seniors are facing a Monday deadline to avoid the Privatization Tax this President and Republican-led Congress sought to impose on our most vulnerable with its Medicare Prescription boondoggle, its past time for Robin Hayes to call in those promised favors for his trade flip-flop.

I love the above subtitle in this morning's Charlotte Observer, Democrats Choose Kissell to Face Hayes. Because that's exactly what happened thanks to the working families of North Carolina's 8th District and the support of good folks from all over such as yourselves. And this scrappy underdog won't be changing a thing all the way to November, when we teach not only Robin Hayes a lesson in real representation, but the entire nation what grassroots politics is all about.

An earlier version of the article posted last night kind of made me chuckle. It said Kissell Wins Easily, Will Face Hayes. Let me tell you, working all day, then dialing for dollars and campaigning all night in one of the largest Districts in the state is hardly easy, but I'm honored that the good support we have sure made it look that way. You, the people, made it happen. And I thank you, and ask you to stick with me on the road to November Victory.

I'm Larry Kissell, and I'm running for Congress.

It may be corny, but I really do believe that one person can make a difference -- and that is why I'm running. I couldn't sit back anymore and just complain about the state of my country. Whether you are religious or not, I hope you can understand the feeling of being called to something and realizing that whatever the obstacles, you have to see it through. It hasn't been easy, especially as a regular working American, and far from a wealthy one after 27 years in textiles. I've had to spend a great deal of time away from my family. I have used credit cards to loan my campaign more than $35,000. And I have pledged to take a leave of absence from teaching this fall.
