Ode To Deborah Potter

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingAfter your first day on the job you said,
"It's official, I work for the devil."
But you always felt that you knew yourself well
and would know how to keep your head level.

But Charlie got greedy, and Betty got needy,
and you have two children to raise.
Your tongue was soon split with the capital talent
of doubletalk, spin, lies, and haze.

Principled Stand

It's altogether fitting that the fight over detainee treatment is among Republicans. We know where (most) Democrats stand. I am grateful to the remaining moderates for their statesmenship and wish them success in this showdown over principle.

NC-08: The best idea of this election cycle.

DKOS
I apologize for the length.  I got on a roll.  Posted on BlueNC and DailyKOS.  This diary was inspired by conversations from last night during our live blogging and filming session.

Much has been made of Larry Kissell's campaign event involving gas prices.  As many of you know, Larry bought gas for hundreds of people at the price gas cost when Larry's opponent first went into office.  In addition to actually helping the voters of NC-08, this event generated a huge amount of press for Larry.  Many called it one of the best ideas in politics they had ever seen.  It was promptly picked up by other candidates, and was just as successful in those areas.

However, I do not think the gas buying event was the most important political idea of this campaign.

Just in: Another DCCC teaser for Larry Kissell

Just got an email from the DCCC congratulating the Kissell campaign on their successful Democratic Day of Action last Saturday.

Stand Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and community agencies that serve the homeless.

The lines between journalism and punditry have always been fuzzy, and in North Carolina that fuzziness is a mile thick. To my knowledge.

Today’s big dogs in political news and opinion are the major dailies, with guys like Rob Christensen (News and Observer) and Jim Morrill (Charlotte Observer) out front on state political reporting. The AP has its own news hunter, Gary Robertson. And there are even some freelance watchdogs. The Lois Lane’s of North Carolina, so to speak.

The papers also have editorial pages and op-ed columnists. Editorial writers largely remain anonymous, giving the impression that their personal opinions represent management - or mismanagement, depending on the paper. And then there are pure columnists, people like Rick Martinez (N&O), Scott Mooneyham (syndicated) and Paul O'Connor (Winston-Salem Journal).

The Mac VAN blues

Well it finally happened. A few weeks ago Voter Activation Network released a upgrade to the NC VAN that will not work correctly on Macs. A pretty subtle bug too and you can miss it if you are not checking the lists the VAN generates. What happens is that the query conditions are not being processed correctly . For example, when I generate a list of just the voters in one precinct, I get a list of voters from all over the county. This is happening using the Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer for Mac (IE).

When I attended VAN training last year, Mark Sullivan, the trainer, and one of the company founders was up front in saying that they were a Microsoft shop and they made no promises that the VAN would work on anything but IE. Now it looks like it needs to be the latest version of IE at that. You would think that with Al Gore on the Apple board of directors that the VAN would show some love for Macs.

Here Come The Puppetmaster!! (or at least one of his minions)

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't be opposed to using a picture of Dr. Weird for any occasion... but I saw this little tidbit on the Asheville Citizen-Times' website this morning and noticed that the Puppetmaster was sending a little bit of Taco Island our way next week...

Liquid Armor? Fact or Fiction

Originally posted at CountryCrats.

If true, it is a GD crime that we do not have NC textile mills being opened to create this stuff for the military. In WWII we took over the auto plants to create tanks.

Today, we should be opening every closed textile mill to make this liquid armor clothing.

Time for the Truth

You all know it, We’ve all heard it a thousand times. But yet it remains a important part of my creed!

“Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for his Brother”

It has rung true in each war that has ever been fought upon the face of this planet! EXCEPT ONE!! Our current war in which we the progressive, moderate’s & conservative’s that swear allegiance to the or a form of Democratic Party are currently involved in.

I know exactly how close we all are here at Blue NC. I truly believe somewhere deep inside me that me ,Anglico, Lance, Robert & Momo probably comprendhend this they better than anyone else. But, I just want to take this a step father! Now, all of us here are very knowledgeable, some are grads, some under grads. SO at least that proves we are all smart.
