Blue Cross Blue Shield NC (BCBSNC) versus Obama's Universal Health Care

Recently the Washington Post printed a story saying BCBSNC was launching an anti-Obama advertising campaign against universal health care. The article said that the advertising campaign was going to show long lines and poor health care to depict what universal health care would be like. Like you I pay too much for health care with a $10,000 deductible.

I have a friend who sells blue cross health insurance so I asked him. I asked why if most companies are under 50 employees and you don't begin to get a price break on health insurance until you have over 50 employees doesn't universal health care make sense. I mean they are using actuarial tables and risk management to determine our individual health care premiums now, so if we were all on a group plan it makes sense that we would pay less because the younger people in the group/universal plan would pay for the older people. My friend did say the government has not shown themselves to be competent administrators of anything lately and is very afraid of the idea. He did however say that the idea of group insurance could work on an association level if the members were required to be members for a set amount of time. It currently does not work because the associations who offer group insurance to their members keep having a high member turnover. This is because the younger members,(who are suppose to pay for the older members when they get sick), keep quitting which throws off the actuarial tables and keeps the premiums high.

Why not single-payer health care?

Any plan being considered by Congress is based on huge profits for the same crooks who have been siphoning money from the people for generations. It's not based on any system to treat all the citizens fairly, so we will just continue with our parasite system. The rest of the civilized world just shakes their heads at how the 'corporatists' control our future. Pathetic!

kkielty-is this an advertisement for BCBS?

Go ahead and tell your "friend" that Obama has not introduced a plan, and neither has Congress.
I have a great deal of interest in being informed about the discussion taking place regarding the future of health care in the U.S., so I do a lot of reading about the topic every day. I don't see why we Americans should have over 30 percent of our costs of health care be paid to the profit takers, do you? They are paid before your doctor is paid, and before your lab tests and surgery is paid for. Ah, the "long lines" argument. Have you talked to any Canadians about "long lines"? Do you see articles or letters to the editors in Canadian newspapers about waiting for surgery? If your doctor writes an order for you to have a mammogram, or surgery, don't you have to "wait in line"? Really. This is important, and if you think you or any of your family members might some day be in need of health care you really ought to seek out information from those not looking to have their family vacation to Hawaii paid for with your insurance premiums. DailyKos has had some of the most informative discussions about this issue that I have seen online, and the pros and cons of all the options have been discussed at length, and I suspect those discussions have not nearly ended. I am a former nurse, and at my age I am in need of affordable health care that is based on medical knowledge, not on what executives from a corporation say I can have.

Yes I have Blue Cross Blue Shield NC Health Insurance..

Blue Options to be exact, with a $10,000 deductible and a Health Savings Plan. I do not know where the national health care issue is going. At this point I believe the dialog and debate is as important as any proposed solutions. I don't understand how non-profit organizations can claim huge profits/bonuses in general...regardless of their performance. Executive pay is no doubt out of control but only one of the issues with health care. You also have doctors pay, malpractice insurance, and Illegal immigrants getting free health care. My current doctor offers me a 40% discount if I pay cash because he gets 40% discounted when he files with the insurance companies. It is a complicated process.

If for now you want health insurance coverage and you don't have the luxury of waiting for reform I do know some local agents that will work hard for you to get a good deal. Gov't run = bad, so, I wonder why Senators aren't

running from their government run/administered/paid-for health care and into the arms of a private insurance provider?

hhmmmmmm ... very puzzling ....

Wonder why my parents use Medicare when the private insurers offer much better and more efficient private coverage?

hhhhmmmmmmmm ... more puzzling ....

Call Senators Hagan and Burr and ask why they accept crappy government health insurance. Call your Congressman or Congresswoman and ask why they don't reject their gov't provided health care/insurance for a much better and more efficient private insurer.

But, your friend is right about one thing, kkielty ... Government run by Republicans at the national level has proven to be, I'm sorry to say, unbelievably bad, inefficient and incompetent.
