BlueNC Bulldog Awards

Yesterday's Blogger Bash was fun. Betsy has pictures, I think, and maybe she'll even show them to you. The food was fabulous and plentiful. The weather perfect. About 50 wonderful people attended. It was like a real-life open thread, with special visitors Bernard Allen and Congressman Brad Miller. And we were especially happy to give out the 2009 BlueNC Bulldog Awards.

The first went to NC Policy watch, where Chris Fitzsimon and Rob Schofield battle against the dark side year in and year out. If you're not already doing so, you should be checking their blog, Progressive Pulse, every day. NC Policy Watch is a project of the North Carolina Justice Center.

Our second award was for Community Organizing. It went to Will Cubbison, who is currently working on Bernard Allen's campaign.

And last but not least, we gave an award in-absentia to the North Carolina Capital Press Corps bloggers, with special appreciation to Laura Leslie, Mark Binker, and Ryan Beckwith. For all the harassment they get from bloggers and readers alike, we owe them our thanks for their hard work in covering state government.

Thank you all for coming, and special thanks to Betsy for all she does. When I introduced her yesterday, I said she was the president, chief financial officer, chief operating officer, chief technology officer, head cook, and receptionist. And that's just the half of it.

Thanks to you and the gracious & wonderful Jane Brown

I missed Lily. Katie said she would have come if Lily had been home from school, but four-five hours of politics was just too much for her without someone her age there.

I do have a longer post coming along with pictures and video. I started writing it earlier, but now find myself having to take the girls to do the shopping that did not get done yesterday. They both need particular outfits for dance/theater productions. I knew leaving the shopping up to Dad was a bad idea. :D

We also have Emily's art show this afternoon. I'll get the pictures and video when I get home. I didn't take as many as last year. I was having way too much fun. Ooops.

Great time. You and Jane are absolutely wonderful.

We should be thanking you and your beautiful wife.

Jane had a smile on her face every time I saw her. Both of you were wonderful hosts and you did it from your hearts. It's not something you were required to do. Thank you so much. It couldn't have been nicer. I had to make myself leave, but I had to take Tom home. He was such a trooper to ride with me. He ended up knowing as many people as I did, and he enjoyed it too. Thanks again James and Jane. I plan to be there again next year.

Lovex7

It was so nice to meet you.

And Tom, too. I know it was a long trip, but thanks for making it. Isn't it fun to meet people in real life that we already know online? It's one of my favorite things. Glad to see you're home safe and sound.

Just proves

you can love people you have never met. :D Or people can love you for all different reasons. Jim Neal loves me because I look like his late mother and I love him back just because he loves me...and he's a cutey.

Lovex7

hated to miss it this year

My husband took the boy and I along while he ran the half-marathon in High Point. I am pleased to say he was beaten by some middle-aged woman....actually, he was the top male finisher in the half-marathon. Top honors went to the amazing Joan Benoit Samuelson, who some might recall as the women's marathon winner at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and also winner of many marathons and other races. At 52, she looks pretty much the same as she did in the 80s, and ran the half and gave a very gracious speech afterwards. My husband also had a good time, and afterwards, we all hiked around Pilot Mountain. It was a lovely day, but I wish I could have seen my blog "peeps."

Way to go speedy

I love Pilot Mountain. One of the best little hikes around.

Great to see you all

James, thanks to you and Jane. Your home is amazing and not in the superficial way so many amazing homes are. (That's a compliment coming from someone who sees many mansions)

It's always a joy how potluck meals work, always enough food and perfectly harmonious pairings. Whoever made the vegetable lasagne...please, I want that recipe.

Progressives are the true conservatives.

Betsy

Part of the success was you. Thank you, thank you for convincing me to go. The food was wonderful and it was just great to see you again. Even tho' we talk for hours on the phone, it is good to see you eyeball to eyeball. You are one of the ones I love, but you don't remind me at all of my mother. Well, maybe a little. You are both short.

Lovex7

Love you too

and you don't remind me a bit of my mother....she's short. :D

Great to meet everyone

Thanks James.

What a Hoot!

Thank you Jane and James for opening you home to us again. It was a treat to look at your art and colletions. And Betsy, how do you do it all? The food you brought was great! Thanks for the baby greens, they were so tender.

I was taking pics and got caught up in a good conversation with LeslieH, LoftT and Lovex7 and missed too many good opportunities. Thanks to Dan Blue for spending some quality time with me, I hope you will finish your project soon.

Steve your princess was adorable but I didn't really expect less.

Thanks, Mo :)

I'll pass that along to Holli. She's been kind of burned out from writing papers and studying for exams, and I know she'll appreciate the compliment.

A tremendous honor

Thanks to all of you for your support and friendship. It was a tremendous honor for the Policy Watch team (and our Justice Center colleagues, Melinda Lawrence and Adam Searing) to be with Blue NC-nation. Keep on raising heck y'all.

Rob

Thank you James and Jane

It's you two that deserve an award for all you do.

Thanks

It was wonderful to see everyone, and I am glad us Young Dems could make it. James and Jane, thank you so much for your hospitality and Betsy keep up the good work! It is pleasure calling y'all and BlueNC friends, and I look forward to the future...

PS-I second that the vegetable lasagna was amazing!
