BlueNC WoW - Open Thread 6/27

Wowza! What a week. Storms keep hitting Charlotte and I keep losing cable and access to all that is happening in our little world here at BlueNC. Oh, the horror!
Many of you know that we sold our home and we're trying to find somewhere to live. The movers are scheduled for July 14 at 9:00am and we still do not have an address for them to deliver our belongings to. We did not expect to sell our home in 8 days and were not prepared, so I'm in over my head and haven't been doing a good job keeping things going with BlueNC WoW.
Please grant me some leeway as I promote a few diaries from yesterday written by women here at BlueNC and post them as WoW posts. We do have an interview coming up with one of our new registered users - June Mabry. She's awesome and will be here in comments from time to time to answer questions.
Please, feel free to post today at any time. I will be in and out and will do my best to get posts moved to the front page.

Forum on Doctors & the Death Penalty Tonight in Durham
On Wednesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Durham Public Library, 300 N. Roxboro St., the Durham Democratic Women will sponsor a talk on the recent stand that N.C. doctors took against the death penalty. Their stand, and their refusal to participate in state executions, took everyone by surprise: the public, the legislature, attorneys, and people for and against state executions.
We will explore how this change on the part of doctors came about and what it means for the immediate future. We will also discuss how this might be useful as a basis for political action regarding the death penalty in North Carolina and beyond.
The featured speaker will be renowned physician and professor Charles van der Horst from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. van der Horst played a key role in helping the N.C. Medical Board come to their current position. We have issued a special invitation to the members of the Durham Bar and to physicians in the community. The presentation and discussion should be interesting, informative and thought-provoking.
This meeting is free and open to the public.
