Burr funded by Texas scam artists

Talk about adding insult to injury:

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott charged TaxMasters and Chief Executive officer Patrick Cox with violating the state's consumer protections law, after receiving more than 1,000 complaints from customers who said they had been deceived or lost money.

Cox and Alex Clamon, the company's vice president, both donated $4,800 to Burr's re-election campaign during a Houston fundraiser in February, reports Rob Christensen. They have also contributed to many other Republican candidates.

Screwed twice with nary a hug to show for it...

More on the charges

against Cox & Co. from the Texas AG's office:

“In the midst of a national economic downturn, TaxMasters used a nationwide marketing campaign to offer services for distressed taxpayers who needed help dealing with the IRS,” Attorney General Abbott said. “A state investigation and nearly 1,000 customer complaints indicate that the defendants routinely misled customers about the nature of their tax resolution service agreements – and worse, attempted to enforce those improper agreements through unlawful debt collection tactics. The state’s enforcement action seeks to prohibit the defendants from continuing to violate the law and seeks restitution for the financially struggling taxpayers who were harmed by the defendants’ unlawful conduct.”

Since this guy advertises and operates nationally, I wonder how many North Carolinians have been swindled by him? Coop, you might want to do a little checking.

I never got this

Why would a Republican candidate or conservative talk show host take money from this company? Their ads talk about settling one's IRS debts for "pennies on the dollar." If you legitimately owe thousands in back taxes to the IRS, shouldn't you be forced to pay it? Otherwise you aren't paying "your fair share" and are freeloading off society like all those "Welfare Queens."

That's an easy one

Don't forget, the IRS is "evil" and should be abolished.

In fairness though, Burr hasn't shown much of a Libertarian streak. Then again, he's liable to say anything if he thought it would win him some votes.
