Cal Cunningham Listening to the Voices of North Carolina

There’s something to be said for good ol’ fashioned talking to people about what’s happening in their lives. Though there’s lots of chit-chat about other things surrounding U.S. Senate 2010, Cal is spending a considerable amount of time actually listening to what people are concerned about. And, he has started capturing some of this dialogue on his blog: The Focal Points (“Friends of Cal”). Cal has traveled to almost half of North Carolina’s counties and posted a couple of poignant stories from the last few days. As he says, in politics, there’s the “game” and there’s what is “real”. Kind of refreshing.

Cal Cunningham

Cunningham has re-launched FOCal Points – as a newsletter, he used it to communicate with constituents as a State Senator, and then as a blog, to keep family and friends apprised of his service in Iraq - as a vehicle to share his personal feelings and thoughts on the 2010 Senate race with interested individuals. Always the kind of guy to tell you what he thinks, Cunningham realizes his own words will engage North Carolinians on the policies that matter most to them.

FOCal Points demonstrates that Cal is heeding the groundswell of support being generated by the grassroots and will allow him to continue the dialogue he thinks is necessary to keep a Senator in touch with his State.

My wife Jane

was chair of the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill when Cal was student-body president. She's a big fan ... assuming this is the same Cal Cunningham.

Indeed It Is

Just one of the many races he has won.

Looks like we may have another supporter in our midst, hmm?

Thanks for making the connection.

Oh yeah. She worked closely with him

and thinks he's great. Smart, she said.

Cal could do a lot worse than having Dr. Jane Delano Brown as one of his fans.

Cal's Blog Posts

I posted this in another thread, but this one seems more appropriate.

“There is a hunger for new and energetic leadership – and many North Carolinians feel their voices aren’t being heard in Washington, on either side of the aisle.”

Would someone please explain this quote to me. I was over at Cal Cunningham’s blog reading the latest entry when I saw this quote. We voted for change last year and we want that change. The President, Congressional leadership, and a majority of NC's delagation in Washington are representing me. I for one am not going to work as hard as I did in 2008 just to have another blue dog up there voting against the policies we voted for last year. This sort of empty rhetoric combined with the wavering on the healthcare issues makes me wonder if Cal will support the President’s agenda. I want the public option and I want our candidate to be willing to fight, not bow down to the right.
