Celebrating public transit

This is one of the underground platforms providing access to the (new) Link light rail which connects Seattle and Tacoma with SEATAC airport.
And here's what the Link looks like from the inside:

Getting around in the Puget Sound area inevitably includes crossing the water. Most of the folks who ride the main ferries are walk-ons (like me). Leave the car at home, baby:

The ferry approach to Seattle is a breathtaking sight:

Which is neat, but more of a novelty than part of a interconnected transportation system. The real workhorse of the system is the bus, which completes the connection between 1/2 block away from my sister's house and the airport:

For you freedom-loving readers, who may be unconvinced about the need for public transit development, let me just say this: Having the ability to get around without needing a car, whether it's your car or somebody else's, is very liberating. While public transit does come at a cost to taxpayers, if the system is designed properly, we can all benefit.
