Civil Rights Leader Dallas Woodhouse Makes an Endorsement
You know who Americans for Prosperity are right? They tried to privatize social security, tried to defeat health care, supported segregation in Wake County, helped to organize the Tea Party (mostly by paying people), etc. etc.
When Dallas Woodhouse goes around the state attacking workers, government, and everything in between, he likes to describe himself as a "Civil Rights leader." Maybe he went to school in Texas or doesn't know what people had to endure to earn that title, but that's what he calls himself and I'll let him wear his Napoleon hat if it makes him happy.
Any rate, he has made an endorsement in North Carolina's Democratic Senate Primary!

Americans for Prosperity Praises Cal Cunningham's Brave Stand for Worker Rights
Americans for Prosperity State Director Dallas Woodhouse issued the following statement in reaction to U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham's announcement that he is opposed to the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, which would eliminate secret ballot protections in union organizing election:
"Cal Cunningham put the rights of workers ahead of the special interest union bosses that want to force workers to join and force them to pay dues. Cunningham deserves a lot of credit for standing up to union bosses--and Democratic Party bosses--more interested in finding a source of political funding through forced union dues than giving workers real choice of deciding--in private--whether or not they want to be represented by a union.
"I traveled the state last year on our Save My Ballot Tour and saw how strongly North Carolinians feel about opposing card check legislation. I commend Cal Cunningham for, like Senator Richard Burr but unlike Cunningham's Democratic primary opponents, putting the rights of works ahead of union bosses.”
Maybe Dallas doesn't know what "brave" means either?
Nearly all of the men and women who earned the title "civil rights leader" dedicated their lives to the advancement of Labor, so I suppose in that respect it is brave to publicly disrespect that legacy.

And you're doing exactly
what Dallas Woodhouse wants you to do, Jerimee. Think about that for a minute.
I'm sure it is
I don't doubt it, but actually, no, I'm too caffeinated to connect the dots. Seriously - I just see it as one opponent of organized labor celebrating a (momentarily) prominent Democrat's betrayal.
Please comment here or email me to explain (if you have a second).

They're either trying to
hurt Elaine (and Ken) by shifting Moderates to Cal, or they're trying to hurt Cal with Liberals by associating themselves with him.
Whatever the case, it's a fake endorsement designed to muck with our Primary. Their overriding goal will be a Republican win in November, and anything they do or say must be viewed in that light.
Here's my basic disagreement
We're both ascribing motives to someone else, but here goes.
I don't believe people like Dallas have an end goal of (re)electing X Republican to X office. His (their) goal is to move the political discourse further into reactionary right territory.
Then, no matter who wins in a given year or a given seat, the whole discussion is closer to his position.
People discuss politics like this most often when it comes to the US Supreme Court (check Glenn Greenwald's article on Solicitor General Kagan as a replacement for Justice Stevens), but not so much when it comes to party primaries for US House or the legislature or the state budget or even US Senate seats. These are more about accepting the other side's term and picking the most palatable candidate to folks who will likely never vote for them anyway. And it happens in both parties.
Dallas is using a "your side said so" moment that Cal unfortunately gave him. In this "palatable" mode of politics that is poison for progressives, and Cal should rightfully be denounced not just for taking the position, but for playing the palatable game.
It's still primary season. Fall-in-line time comes after the primary, or the runoff.
Oops! Wrong Party Dallas?
You mean Art Pope has made a endorsement in a Democrat primary! Sounds like treason to me with Dallas puppet strings getting tangle up with his Chinese Corporate Fascist made shoestrings......
Seriously, Jerimee. Is this
Seriously, Jerimee. Is this your only hobby these days? Did Cal offend you by not calling you for your netroots/new media advice or something? This is getting really old, really fast.
Actually, Jerimee, it really is
I liked reading your posts better when you weren't beating on anyone, but instead were working for Democrats, one and all.
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
supporting the platform
EFCA is part of the Democratic party platform. How is sitting on the sidelines mute while the Democratic party is attacked is beneficial? Without our participation and discussion, the primary simply becomes an exercise in who can raise the most money (and most of it from private interests).
As far as unity goes, please communicate your concern to the DSCC and DCCC. The DSCC should not be involved in primaries. Who can defend the DSCC's involvement? It is at best paternalistic, and at worst corrupt. I deeply resent that the DSCC, with 81 white men in the Senate, wants to tell North Carolina voters to reject a candidate of color or a female candidate. Not only is this morally offensive; it is simply incorrect strategically - the Dixiecrats ain't coming back. If we win in North Carolina it will be on the strength of female voters and voters of color. If we want to get working class white men back into the party we need to grow the strength of Labor, but the DSCC has already condemned Labor to twist in the wind for another cycle.

Right now, EFCA should not be the benchmark
EFCA right now is a wedge issue. Even if I agree that it should be passed, it should not become a hill we live or die on with regard to democratic candidates right now. There is a lot of "passion" on both sides on this issue and even though it does not parallel "choice", it is close to many.
I say we put this one on the back burner and get-r-done at a later date when the time is right.
Just an opinion.

Just like I wouldn't vote
Just like I wouldn't vote against someone based on color or sex, I'm not going to for FOR them based on it either. End of story. Let it go - that argument is worthless.
I happened to support Kay over Jim in '08 and it had zero to do with the DSCC or the sex of the candidates and neither does my choice here. However, I know enough to recognize that no one can win in this race without their help. The DSCC is an organization that none of these candidates will beat Burr without - they are powerful for good reason and they know their stuff whether you like them or not.
Absolutely not
I'll let the rest go, but not this.
The DSCC is a bumbling organization that couldn't field a candidate AT ALL in South Dakota this year (against GOP Senator John Thune).
Repeat: The DSCC failed to field a candidate in one of the cheapest media markets in the country.
The DSCC just gave the GOP a US Senate seat without a fight.
They neither know their stuff nor are good at it
Not an endorsement
Americans for Prosperity does not endorse candidates
If it walks like a duck,
talks like a duck, and chooses sides like a duck:
then I think we can safely say it's an endorsing duck.
And it's a fowl thing to do, Dallas.
Americans For Corporate Greed do secretly endorse candiates?
Americans for Prosperity does not endorse candidates* Dallas
Of course you don't! But you sure know how to bull shit a phony make-believe neo-con lie! Dallas! Have you consider a another career as the Toastmaster of the Americans Liars Club? And when will you find a real job instead of being a waterboy for Art Pope?
