In a cloud?
I just can't quite get my arms wrapped around this policy. It is okay for a homosexual man to take a shower with a heterosexual man and just fine for a lesbian woman to be around when a heterosexual woman washes herself off, just as long as those homosexuals haven't told someone openly that they are gay.
But, on the other hand, if everyone knows that that homosexual man is the way he is and that woman being a lesbian is common knowledge, then the military of the US is in danger of crumbling into a pile of ineffective rubbish that can no longer protect our country in spite of the fact that we spend as much in this country for defense as the rest of the world does en masse.
I know you may not have heard or read this policy put this way but that is what we are being asked to swallow in the name of US patriotism and national defense.
I remember a time when gays were really not considered any more than a subject of humor and then along came AIDS and HIV and homosexuality became a subject of revulsion and persecution, then the pendulum sort of swung in the other direction and Americans, especially the younger of the citizens made a decision that this was not really an important consideration, you are what you are and live your life accordingly.
Now we are discussing same sex marriage and family partnerships but the "so-called evangelicals" like Tony Perkins in this country have adopted the mantra that, "if you are queer, you should be feared", or, "you're gay so go away" and are seeking contributions of dollars to finance organized campaigns to eradicate this problem. I just don't get it.
The "money changers" were thrown out of the temple by Jesus, do the evangelicals deserve any less?
I attended a church in Rutherford County up until moving away three or four years ago and remember a pastor who was passionate, entertaining, and convincing in his sermons - but I began to feel during the last year of our attendance that true Christian edicts were missing in favor of other priorities. Anti-gay, conservative government, against health care reform, calling it unfair to private insurance companies, pro capital punishment and anti crime.
Now, don't get me wrong, some of those things are important to me like crime prevention, but not at the expense of our humanity and not to the detriment of our compassion.
I have unfortunately come to a point in my life where I see in the minds of many evangelicals the position that wealth, position, status, and asset accumulation are important, but not as important as Jesus Christ, but not by very much.
