Coal ash cover-up in progress. Really.

When you own the governor, you get what you want. And what Duke Energy wants is (1) a slap on the wrist, (2) scant oversight by regulators, and (3) the ability to continue the let coal ash leach into North Carolina's ground water.

And that's just what they're getting.

A legislative proposal would set few new requirements for Duke Energy to monitor and clean up contaminated groundwater near coal-ash ponds. At the same time, the bill would allow Duke to close its sites by covering coal ash with soil. Environmentalists say this would not prevent the underground water from becoming contaminated, tainting drinking-water supplies for residents across the state.

Meanwhile, as our environment

Meanwhile, as our environment edges toward the brink of destruction, the country is hyperventilating about a tea party nutjob in Virginia? Whatever.
