Common sense on teacher tenure
Ask yourself the simple question: "Would I want to do this?"
There are many talented people who teach even with the low pay. They do so because they love it. But for decades now, North Carolina has been losing many of its top mid-career teachers because salaries and benefits lag and for many other reasons, most related to employer support. Eliminating tenure provides teachers with just one more reason, on top of the poor pay and difficult working conditions, to simply move on to something else. And that does not help our children.
Right at this very moment, there are hundreds of high school seniors and college undergrads in NC contemplating devoting their lives to the teaching profession. And many of them are looking at recent developments, and deciding that there just isn't enough of a support system to make that choice a smart one.
BlueNC is dedicated to making North Carolina a more progressive and prosperous state. If your intention is to disrupt this effort, please find somewhere else to express your opinions.

Thank you for writing about this.
Sure let's take another thing away from teachers. It's this continuing assault on educators that make folks dream about getting in the octagon with Mr. Tillis. I have seen plenty of teachers fired, and tenure didn't help much at all.

Anyone that thinks tenure
Anyone that thinks tenure prevents an incompetent teacher from being removed is mistaken. Tenure prevents competent teachers from being removed to make room for the son, daughter-in-law or neice of the well connected.
