“Meantime Congressman Mike McIntyre is staying clear of endorsing a presidential candidate for the November election.

We asked Representative McIntyre this afternoon if he was going to endorse a presidential candidate. He says his focus is on the congressional race and not any other races. McIntyre says he’s focusing his efforts on eastern North Carolina and making it better for the people who live and work in the state.” (WSFX – Wilmington FOX, 6/23/12)

Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC): “We’ve always been steadfast in our work for eastern North Carolina. And I’m grateful because we’ve had Republican and Democratic friends who supported us because they know my heart is here and it’s not about any party agenda or any other person’s agenda.

Our focus is on the congressional race and Eastern North Carolina.

Rep. McIntyre should relinquish his delegate seat in Charlotte

Had to check to be sure, but all Congressional members are automatically delegates to the National Democratic Party Convention in Charlotte.

Maybe McIntyre needs to do some gut checking and either endorse Obama for President or give his seat to someone who will.

Why should he do that?

What will President Obama or OFA do to help or endorse McIntyre in NC?

What has OFA and the DNC done to build up the Democratic Party in NC since June 2008? Absolutely nothing.

OFA tactics have forced candidates who previously worked for other Dems up and down the ballot to look out for themselves only.

Of course their consultants love that - it makes them (the consultants) more valuable and vital, but it raises the costs of campaigning. Since the candidates won't be able to depend on a party structure that works hard for every single Democrat on the ballot. That's the OFA way - ever since June 2008.

Time to stop this nonsense and take our Party BACK from OFA - go back to Howard Dean-style party-building and work for Obama and EVERY OTHER Democrat on the ballot. Doing that was a big part of how we turned NC Blue in 2008. Not doing that was a big part of why we lost so big in 2010.

party loyalty

It seems to me that nothing less than simple party loyalty requires a nominee of the party to endorse the head of the ticket of the same party. Deflating our own party leaders is like trying not to get hit playing football--it will be worse for you if you dodge and weave instead of going straight at those in front of you.

From AP: Some Democrat candidates skipping the Dem Convention

Maybe this is why the Convention organizers are squeamish about posting a delegates listing? Just guessing.

WASHINGTON — Some Democrats in tough races are returning their invitations to the Democratic National Convention with a note attached: Thanks, but no thanks.

"Sen. Clare McCaskill of Missouri is the highest-profile Democrat to announce she'll skip the September shindig in Charlotte, N.C. At least 10 Democratic incumbents and front-running challengers will be no-shows, according to a count by The Associated Press..."

So much for party loyalty. As the article at WRAL.com notes, this gives Non-affiliated voters reason to wonder about their support for President Obama's re-election. Not a good omen for Fall election.

This is another item to add to a long list of reasons why

most dems hold their nose when voting for him...which we do because the alternative is usually much worse.

Stan Bozarth

Really disappointing

How can you show up as a delegate and not support your candidate? Seems nothing is more important than being re-elected these days.

Maybe he doesn't want to give his GOP competition a sound-bite..

...to use against him in any ads?

Question is.....

...is Obama and his campaign doing all they can to help candidates like McIntyre win their elections?

Perhaps McIntyre and other down-ballot Dems realize that Obama won't have the longest coat-tails - due to many factors: GOP voter challenges, shortened Early Voting, denial of service problems due to questionable voting equipment maintenance practices, etc.?

I've said it before - OFA is not set-up to help anyone but Obama win political office. The DNC is set up to do little else.

I am a party officer in my precinct, county, district as well as an SEC member. Going to Charlotte won't help me register or canvass one single extra voter, or protect our election equipment.

Obama will win the nomination. The delegates will only approve a platform that is first approved by President Obama - the delegates won't really have a say. What good will it do for me to go there?

I'm already looking to the post-OFA world AFTER the 2012 election when (even if Obama gets re-elected) OFA won't be able to pull the strings the way they have since June 2008 and we can take our Party back from the consultants and the hired help.
