Disheartening numbers on Amendment One

Analysis of PPP Polling numbers by Seth Effron:

Based on early voting turnout and polling results from Public Policy Polling, those opposing Amendment One have an uphill battle today – mostly because of the astonishingly near unanimous support of the amendment from Republicans. The facts -- there were 260,068 Democratic Party ballots cast in early voting (including registered Democrats and unaffiliateds who cast Democratic Party ballots) and 209,656 Republican Party ballots cast (including registered Republicans and unaffiliateds who cast GOP ballots). Public Policy Polling said 40 percent of the Democrats would vote FOR the amendment and 53 percent would vote against it. The poll has 80 percent of Republicans voting for the amendment and just 16 percent voting against it.

It's a sad day when I feel ashamed of 40% of my own Party. It's not over yet, and we might just be surprised. But it's plain (to me) that the North Carolina Democratic Party has a long way to go.

I'm just wondering

How is PPP making sure it's polling all the people voting who have never voted in a primary before, not just D & R likely voters (previous primary voters)? How are they finding them? They don't have home numbers. If they're like me, they don't answer a number they don't recognize on their cell phone. Out of my small # of friends who have already voted or are voting today, MANY are requesting the unaffiliated ballot because they aren't politically active and are ONLY voting to vote against the amendment. How are their numbers being counted? or are they? Just curious.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Why does the 40% surprise

Why does the 40% surprise you? If you have lived in the South and North Carolina most of your life...you should not be. As for the Democrats ...still a lot of crackers are Democrats and frankly the majority of the African-American community are not gay rights supporters. Ask anyone who knows the history of Prop 8 in California.

Election results

Hat-tip to Ed Cone for posting this link.

I also want to thank Ed for all the work he's done fighting this horrible Amendment and keeping people informed. It was not in vain, my friend.

Marry Xmas Bigots

So it's bigot Christmas
And what have you done?
Another beer over
And a new one just begun

And so this is anti-Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
As long as they're dumb

So, have a very bigot Christmas
As Christ would have done
Let's hope it's a good one
With slurs and guns

And so this is bigot Christmas
For straight and for strong
For rich and the white ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For Mormons and those
Who think lots of wives
Are better than none.

It's a very non-fairy Christmas
And Newt is on-board
So's Rick Santorum
The economy just scored

And so did all the bigots
That don't know what they've done?
They just made trial laywers
Happy sons of a gun.

If you think the war's over,
It's only begun.
Thanks NCGOP
For our next Majority.

Sorry NC

From a Californian that voted against Prop 8 and watched it pass, sorry to all the North Carolinians that just witnessed the same. Prop 8 is going down. And so will this. There is nothing constitutional about denying a person their rights based on their sexual orientation.

The bigots and the fake Christians will go down. In 30 years, they will all feel the shame of those that have made decisions based on bigotry before them.

Freedom and liberty for all is something we must continue to fight for in this country. The current Republican party, along with many Republicans in Democrat clothing are trying to destroy our nation. We will not let that happen. Vote them all out in November.

This election truly is going to be a turning point for this nation. What happens in November will shape the type of century we're building. Vote your conscience and we will restore freedom for all.

Godspeed NC.

Cancel your Nags Head Vacation

Planning on visiting the Outer Banks this summer. Not me. We just cancelled our two weeks in the Outer Banks. Send a message to NC voters that there decisions will cost their state jobs, meony, revenue.

Dare county

Check the election results. Dare county voted AGAINST. Just thought you'ld like to know, in case it made a difference.

FWIW

I voted against the amendment and am sorry it passed. I am a white Republican and most here would not like or agree with most of what I like and support and I am positive I do not like most of what the majority of you like and support. That said, I want it on the record that not all Repbulicans supported for the amendment, even if the majority did so. I actually thought it would not pass, because of lack of support in some Republican, pro-business circles. However, there are many people who follow what they are told to do by church leaders. That is not always a good thing or a bad thing. In this case, it was definitely a bad thing. So, for what its worth, I am saddened and disheartened. Just as you do not agree with everything your party or party leaders do, I do not agree with everything the NCGOP does

Thank you

Saying it matters. It matters a lot. Thanks.

Seems like those churches

Seems like those churches should lose their tax-exempt status. Stay out of my life, creeps! (and I'm hetero married)

Disappointed for NC

Living in a wonderfully blue and green state (WA), I'm so disappointed for NC. But if you were to ever join me out here, you'd be satiated and lazy. :) You're doing good work there, my brother. Keep it up.

Thank you, sweetie :)

On days like today it's sorely tempting to relocate to a better place. But there's just under ten million reasons why I must stay and fight.
