I have read several articles about John Edwards recent trip to Israel. He seems as hooked as any of the right wingers on Israeli propaganda, and even took the opportunity to praise, of all people, Butcher Sharon("remember Shatilla"). Might well have sent a rightwing christocrat over there.
The problem is: Israel wags the US far too much and has for many years. In some respects we are engaged in the Middle East due to the pressures of the American Israeli lobby, which is powerful beyond belief. And, Edwards statements about Syria, Iran and others look like pages from Condisleeza Rice's playbook. This guy is moderate, progressive -- what about is he awake? He was stupid enough to vote for Iraq, that is the few times he was at duty in the Senate and not out campaigning. A number of us told him not to, but he told me he was privy to information I did not have -- I had access to information in my previous life Edwards could not even dream about -- besides in the Senate Select Committee the Administration fed them lies, absolute lies, and then they swore to it.
Why does not someone ask Edwards what is his take on President Carter's new book, "Peace not Aparthied" and why he is going counter to the wisdom Carter provides. Also, check out Haaretz.com for the cross cut of Israeli opinion. My take, President Carter has done a solid deed to say what too many have made the unspeakable, the unsayable -- Thanks Jimmy.
So, it appears that if we "get" Edwards, we will get a continuation of influence by the Israeli and Jewish lobbies far beyond their relevance. We can also be assured Edwards will be tutored carefully by those lobbies. What some folks will do for campaign funds.
As for Edwards, I have tried to contact him for several years to ask a couple of questions. All I get for my efforts is yet another email beggering me, money please - make a rich man richer.
Edwards would be a far more likely candidate if he did not come across as knowing all. And this latest fiasco in Israel is being ignores once again by our so-called media. The capture of our foreign policy, and some domestic policies, by these Israeli lobbies must be shut down and Israel set in proper perspective -- some of which Jimmy Carter put so well.
