Most of the time I write about voting issues, but today I want to let you know about a bill meant to help our vulnerable elderly and the people who care for them.
Please ask your Representative to sign on as a co sponsor of HB 91, a bill to help the caregivers of persons suffering from dementia. I've personally been the primary caregiver for my elderly Mother since the late 90's and still am today.
1 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
2 AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND
3 HUMAN SERVICES, DIVISION OF AGING AND ADULT SERVICES, FOR PROJECT
4 C.A.R.E. WHICH PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEMENTIA AND
5 THEIR CAREGIVERS, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA STUDY
6 COMMISSION ON AGING.
7 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
8 SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of
9 Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and Adult Services, the sum of five hundred
10 thousand dollars ($500,000) for the 2009-2010 fiscal year to fund Project C.A.R.E., which
11 provides support to individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
12 SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
Caregivers definitely need help, any help they can get. There are so many areas that we struggle in. Many "baby boomers" are taking care of one or more parents at this time, and some are doing it with very little support. That isn't right. This bill, HB 91 IS right.
Please take 60 seconds out of your day to help those who are taking care of their parents.
Call or email your representative, ask them to sign on as a co-sponsor of HB 91.
