EVERYTHING MUST GO!
Collective bargaining. Unions. Taxes. Safety Nets. Voting rights. Manufacturing. The middle class.
Public Schools. Public employees. Public assets! Parks, Zoos, Airports.
Roads and bridges? You want 'em. We got 'em!! Our prices are INSANE!
Social Security! Medicare too!
NEW DEAL?? NO DEAL!!! WE'RE CLEARING EVERYTHING OUT!
Beyond what's happening with unions in Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan, Think Progress reports legislation with similar language in Maine, New Hampshire and Missouri. The bills seem to be based on a provisions in Oklahoma's constitution, and have been introduced this session in West Virginia, Indiana, Minnesota, Kentucky and Maryland as well. Budget "flexibility" is being used to justify things the way "uncertainty" justified extending the Bush tax cuts. The effort is better orchestrated than the RNC alone can manage. What we are seeing is beyond R vs. D. It is top vs. bottom. And much of the conservative wish list is on the agenda -- charter schools, vouchers, Voter ID, TABOR and cuts to Medicaid.
Of course, if Democrats were attempting this much "change," major networks would be compelled to brand their coverage with ominous music and flashing graphics. ("War On The Middle Class," maybe?) Fox News would portray the "Democrat" effort as the second coming of Joseph Stalin.
