Cumberland County District Court Judicial Race - Laura Devan

Judge Devan was recently appointed by Gov. Easley to fill a newly created district court judge post. When I first met her at a Larry Kissell for Congress fundraiser, I was so impressed to meet a candidate who so openly spoke about the value of public service. She told me that she was so excited to be returning to the public sector, this time as a judge. Judge Devan was excited and ready to bring her family law experience to the bench.

As someone who has gotten the chance to observer many, many going-ons in district court in Cumberland County, almost every case, no matter what the charge, has some aspect of family law to it. So it's great that we have her on the bench (especially since our OTHER resident family law expert, Judge Cheri Beasley, is running for the Court of Appeals and will soon be leaving us to go to Raleigh!!).

What is so unique about her campaign is how diverse her support is. From the lawyers in the courthouse to the progressive activists of the community, everyone is supporting her campaign to retain her spot on the bench.

I also heard that Judge Devan just got endorsed by the Central Labor Council, which includes American Postal Workers Union (APWU), United Steel Workers Union (USW), Teamsters, American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Ft. Bragg, American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) VA Hospital, United Food and Commercial Workers (UNFCP) Tarheel, U.N.I.T.E., and S.A.S. I'm not even sure what all those are! But it's clear she has strong union support.

So, if you live in Cumberland County, please support District Court Judge Laura Devan!!

Very nice!

Thanks for bringing her to our attention....even if most of us can't vote for her. You never know when the name will crop up for another office.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
