A cunning, unscrupulous political stunt...or the real thing?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter...but here's what happened:
Yesterday House Democrats proposed an amendment/motion to/in the Republican sponsored short term spending bill to keep the government running. The motion was to end the $Billions in annual taxpayer subsidies to "Big Oil." The motion was defeated 249 t0 176 with EVERY REPUBLICAN in the House voting against the repeal of oil subsidies.

Although every thinking citizen should be angry at the Republicans over this, I believe this entire exercise was a Democratic political stunt. Follow me below:

First, the facts as close as I can get to them without days of research: The combined 2010 net profits for Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, and Conoco-Phillips were @ $61 Billion. That's after paying, just for example, their three CEO's $61 Million in compensation...which BTW averages somewhere 450 to 850 times the average wage of one of their employees ($32K) depending on the company.

Second, "Big Oil" contributed an average of $22K to the campaigns of every member of the House...more to Republicans (@$33K) and less to Democrats...but still big money.

My first reaction was anger at the Republicans...proof that they don't give a damn about the deficit and all this talk of shared sacrifice is pure bullshit (which it is), and that we ought to recognize the talk of "cutting entitlements" as nothing more than continuing the take-over of our nation by the ultra wealthy and corporations...(which it is).

And then I asked myself...why didn't the Dems do this when they controlled the House? Bingo! It's a freakin stunt. Cunning...all smoke and no fire.

If this kind of BS doesn't wake us up, I wonder what will.
