Does your town have a farmers market?

Here in Clayton we have a farmer's market opening on the Town Square April 4th ... just a few months away. I am very excited about it. We are so fortunate to have a group of committed citizens and town leaders & employees who have worked for about a year to get the market organized and started right.

There are several wonderful farmer's markets in the Triangle area. Do you live in a town with it's own local farmer's market?

If you do, have you been? Why or why not?

Do you visit your market a few times a year? Do you shop there regularly during the season? Do you support it with a portion of your grocery budget every week? Do you have the schedule posted on your fridge and look forward to every market day? Why do you like/love it?

Do you volunteer with your local market? Are you a market vendor?

We have several in southern Moore Co.

Two that run year round (I think) in Southern Pines, at the downtown park, and in the Armory parking lot. During the spring and summer, the hospital health and fitness center runs one in their parking lot. That one was started to encourage the hospital employees to eat more healthy food - but it's open to everyone.

Waynesville

Ended the season with TWO competing farmers' markets.

See this and this.

It's hard to think about the spring with our high temp today reaching 33, but all of us are wondering where the farmers will be come May.

Carrboro has a fantastic market

Jane goes every Saturday when it's open. I stay home. :)

We have a very nice farmer's market in Monroe

We have a lot of farmers too, but you do have to ask if something is local. They are usually honest about where they get their produce. My favorite farmer only sells his own produce or local produce. I made the best salsa with peppers I bought from him. He sold a heaping pint basket for $1 - lots of variety. His tomatoes were to die for. I'm hoping to need less of his produce this year, but I don't think there's any way I can grow enough peppers and enough tomatoes for everything I can. I made up a recipe for jalepeno relish and everyone loves it. Seeding those peppers was a pain, but I feel good when I hear my girls bemoaning the fact that we are on our last jar.
