Dole = Bush

Put it on a bumper sticker. For Brad Miller, or any other Democrat who is considering a run against Elizabeth Dole, your campaign does not need to be any more complicated than that.
Voters need to be relentlessly reminded that Elizabeth Dole has been nothing more than a loyal lap-dog for George Bush. His administration, and Dole’s judgment, have been disastrous both for our country and for North Carolina.
Rather than do any actual research for this post, and with all the same humility that Dick Cheney displayed when in 2000 his Vice-Presidential search committee chose himself, let me humbly link to my previous post The President’s Tool.
One final thought. North Carolina is a state that is proud of it’s military heritage. I think it is a fair question to ask Senator Dole whether she thinks her decisions have strengthened or harmed the military institutions in North Carolina. From the Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune, to the soldiers at Fort Bragg who now have multiple 12-15 month deployments, to the North Carolina National Guard soldiers many of whom face a second deployment, and to the recruiting and retention of soldiers.
Senator Dole: are North Carolina military families better off now than when you were elected? If not, what responsibility do you accept for the decisions you have made?
Regardless of who runs against Dole, someone at NC Democratic headquarters needs to get the message out and start distributing Dole = Bush bumper stickers.

Cautionary Note
While this strategy is not bade (especially considering Bush's approval ratings are tanking in the state... I think 37% approve 59% disapprove) we must remember that 2007 is not 2006. Great lets run against Bush, but let us remember Bush will not be on the ballot in 2008. If all the Democrats run is a campaign against Bush, we could be in for a problem. The Republicans no doubt will try to push W as far from their candidates as possible and that might not be as hard as it seems. With a Presidential campaign going on, the main news story will be about the Presidential horse race, not about George Bush's failures, which there are many.
We have to run against Bush's policies and tie Dole to those policies. How many times did Dole block votes to form an exit strategy. Dole is a beltliner with little tie to North Carolina. In her first term in office, a Senator who was criticized for her lack of time spen in North Carolina proceeded to fly all across the country recruiting Republican candidates for the Senate (and not doing a very good job of it either). In 2006 how many days did she spend in Senate battleground states and how many in North Carolina. Those are the issues we need to be pushing with a not so subtle hint to being Bush's lap dog.

She never even voted in North Carolina until the early 2000s. She is certainly a carpetbagger.
