Dome hits the front page!

But misses the main point, which is this:

Senator Richard Burr acted on insider information in his own self interest first, not in the interest of his constituents or the nation.

I was glad to see that Ryan's coverage of Richard Burr's Macaca Moment made it to the front page of the N&O, but somewhat disappointed with the story itself. For starters, the quote from David Young, while interesting, isn't on target with what happened.

And talk about dog-bites-man. Is it any surprise that the head of any North Carolina Chamber of Commerce would be just fine with Burr's story?

Chamber President Bob Williford said the speech -- including the anecdote -- was well-received. "I think he was just trying to convey how critical things were at that point in time," he said. "He was explaining why Congress reacted as quickly as it did on those issues. I didn't take it as any kind of a selfish move."

I don't object to Burr scrambling for cash once he found out the financial world might crumble over the weekend. What I object to is his failure to warn everyone else.

I object to the fact that he did it

He acted on information he had as a privileged member of the U.S. Senate. Had he warned everyone else, he may very well have caused a run on the bank. I object that he acted for his own personal gain (albeit a small one) and protection based on information he received as a U.S. Senator - information that was not publicly available.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

Yes. That is the main main point.

I should have 'splained it that way.

One good reason to subscribe

is that you can physically see what thousands of off-line readers are finding in their driveways each morning. This story was below the fold, but prominent on the front page. And despite my criticism (and agenda) it's a pretty good story.

Macaca Moment!

I love the Phrase Macaca Moment! It so accuratly describes how prone these Right Wingers are to putting their FOOTS IN THEIR MOUTHS!

Anthony D. Hall,

Fighting for Truth, Justice, Freedom and the American Way!

I think Burr stepped in the macaca

big time with this one. The stereotypical Republican worried about Mine, Mine, Mine! is like something from a Daffy Duck cartoon.

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
