Don Vaughn wishes David Parker would stay on as NCDP Chair!
Very interesting turn of events took place at the Senior Dems convention this weekend:
There was one ‘candidate’ at Saturday’s convention who is not running for an office that appears on Tuesday’s ballot but will be voted on by a much small electorate later this month.
Guilford County State Sen. Don Vaughan could be the next chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party.
Vaughan, who served many years on the Greensboro City Council before being elected the state senate in 2008, said that he was “drawn out” of his 27th District as a result of last year’s redistricting and that he has the time to step into the role.
“I really wish David (Parker) would stay on,” Vaughan said. “I think the world of David. We were young Democrats together so I’ve known him a long time. But if that doesn’t happen I’m willing to step in and hit the ground running. We have a great slate of candidates and if I become chairman, my job would be to help get us over the goal line in November.”
So far all we have heard is the loudest calls for the removal of David Parker coming from the paid political consultants in Raleigh, followed by some Council of State candidates and other "electeds". And of course we all know they would never engage in any activities that aren't for the good of the Party over their own selfish interests - would they?
Found out talking to a advocate here in Raleigh that some of these consultants were AGAINST Same Day Registration at Early Voting because it would cut into their business. So even though SDR is good for the Party, they lobbied against it because it would cut into their profits!
What I haven't heard ANYONE who is either calling for Parkers resignation or running for NCDP Chair is one thing: How would they have handled the personnel matters differently and stayed within the law?
That should be a mandatory question for anyone running for NCDP Chair - or for anyone calling for Parker's resignation.
None of them would be able to honestly answer that they would have done a thing different. If
they did say they'd do something different - I'd like to hear what they would do and why.
