Elaine Marshall and Young Democrats

Young Democrats are working hard as part of Secretary of State Elaine Marshall's campaign to unseat Richard Burr.

Elaine is a previous Young Democrats of North Carolina (YDNC) National Committee Woman and is the former National Secretary of Young Democrats of America (YDA).

She was one of the first Board of Trustee members for YDNC. She assisted YDNC in expanding our Board of Trustees and has spoken in support of the Young Democrats at fundraising events. She has been a constant presence at YDNC, College Democrats, and Teen Democratic events. In 2009 she spoke at the YDNC convention, and keynoted the Teen Democrats yearly meeting.

More importantly, her work as Secretary of State has improved the lives and increased the opportunities for young people.

The fate of our generation rises based on our abilities to embrace emerging technologies, and Elaine is a national leader on digital issues. Her efforts to improve technology in state government and stay up to date on the latest tech advances have positioned North Carolina as a national leader in areas such as electronic corporate filings, electronic commerce, electronic notarization, etc.

Regarding education and worker retraining. Elaine has worked as a community college teacher and community college board member. She understands that learning is a constant activity and the importance of training workers for new career opportunities, particularly as we have had to restructure our state economy with the decline of the textile, tobacco, and furniture industries.

Marshall has taken on lobbyists in Raleigh, reforming North Carolina’s ethics laws. This helps ensures that interests of young people, including the legislative agenda of Young Democrats of North Carolina, are not drowned out by corporate interests.

Secretary Marshall has been active in civic groups in the areas of child welfare, women's issues, and agriculture and small town economic development. As Secretary of State, she has received numerous state and national awards for leadership in technology, government innovation, and women's leadership.

Elaine has a diverse work background as a small business owner, interior decorator, teacher, attorney, and NC State Senator. When she travels across the state she is greeted by the smiles of friends in every county - by people who can say: “Elaine Marshall made my curtains!” as well as "Elaine recovered my retirement investment" What other public official do you know that sews her own Inaugural gowns?

Here is what Mandy Haynes, a Wake County Young Democrat, has to say about Elaine:

Sec. Marshall is incredible. I have leaped at the chance to work with Elaine Marshall when ever I could.

I first volunteered on her 2002 Senate race, when I was 17. The primary was late that year because of redistricting, so it was September before the primary. I turned 18 on the campaign and for my birthday Secretary Marshall gave me a voter registration form.

She had always been a personal mentor of mine.

Elaine Marshall has won four statewide elections as North Carolina Secretary of State including her long shot upset of NASCAR legend Richard Petty in 1996. Elaine will make good use of her experienced leadership to retire our current unfortunate excuse for a Senator.

Disclosure: This post is my own. I do not speak for Marshall or any other candidate. I do not speak for YDNC or any other party. I'm opposed to DSCC attempts to subvert our Democratic primary process, and as such have provided paid data management services for both Marshall's and Lewis's campaigns. That work is finished, done, and not ongoing, so I feel free to speak for myself.

BlueNC,
Though it has been awhile and I haven’t posted lately, I have been following the site, the postings, and the continual passion of our online family to make a difference. Though in the past my posts were on behalf of my father or certain issues, this post concerns my position as the Young Democrats of North Carolina’s National Committeeman. Though I respect my friend Jerimee’s post and agree that Secretary Marshall has played a pivotal roll in the past and current success of YDNC, I wanted to make something clear. As an organization YDNC is not endorsing any U.S. Senate candidate until after the primary. Though any Young Democrat may make a personal choice to support, work for, or volunteer for a certain candidate, the organization as a whole will provide equal resources, outlets, and opportunities to reach interested voters across North Carolina. We are blessed to have so many candidates seeking to unseat Senator Burr and each has their own talents, qualifications, and passions. However, all are willing to sacrifice their time and energy to serve the citizens of this state. More importantly each candidate realizes that now more than ever, Washington needs bold, fearless leadership to find practical solutions.

In order to provide voters, especially Young Democrats, an opportunity to see the similarities and differences between the candidates, YDNC is hosting a U.S. Senate Debate on Saturday, March 27 at 10 am during our annual statewide convention. With the support and hard work of the Cumberland County Young Democrats, this year the convention will be held in Fayetteville at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux (1707 Owen Drive, Fayetteville, NC ). We expect this debate to be an lively exchange between the candidates and all questions will be submitted from only those attending the convention. So please come join us and go to http://www.ydnc.org/convention/ to purchase your convention tickets today.

Again thank you BlueNC for all that you do, and I’m especially thankful for all of the friends I have made thanks to this site…

All the best,
Zeb

Thanks for posting what many North Carolinians feel. I thought I was voting for "change" in the Presidential election but this early DSCC involvement is politics as usual!

North Carolinians may make mistakes but at least they are our mistakes. And it is not like the Washington insiders don't make their share!
