Elaine Marshall expands on LGBT/Civil Rights issues

North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall has been a steady and consistent friend of the LGBT community throughout her years of dedicated public service. In fact, just last month, Elaine participated in a live chat at Pam's House Blend to reach out to the community about her run for United States Senate.

As such, I wanted to make everyone got a chance to see Elaine's new expanded issue paper on Civil Rights.

Repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” – Elaine believes that if people are willing to serve, then we should honor them. Signing up to join the United States military is one of the most courageous things anyone can do, and as U.S. Senator she would fully support the repeal of this outdated policy. If someone is willing to fight for our country, we should not ask them to lie about who they are.

Doing away with the “Defense of Marriage Act” – Elaine believes it is not the Federal government’s job to discriminate against anybody including when it comes to sexual orientation. As U.S. Senator, Elaine would support the repeal of DOMA and fight to restore the idea of equality for all Americans.

Enacting the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act” – Elaine believes that all Americans have the right to live and work without fear of being themselves. As U.S. Senator, Elaine would support the passing of ENDA to end LGBT discrimination.

Enacting the “United American Families Act” – Elaine believes that all consenting partners deserve the right to be with one another. As U.S. Senator, Elaine would support the enactment of UAFA legislation, which would allow all bi-national married couples the same immigration rights extended to heterosexual couples.

Respect for all Americans – Elaine understands that many of these issues can be contentious and used by politicians to divide people. As U.S. Senator, Elaine will not only fight to give equality to all Americans, but will strive to keep the debate civil and honest and not allow politicians to demagogue Americans for political gain.

As always...

...I am proud to work for Elaine Marshall's campaign for U.S. Senate!

I must admit

I started off slightly leaning towards the Cunningham campaign, they had my vote in those online polls early on, but I think the Elaine team may be winning me over. Although there have also been times, really early on, where I thought I might go Lewis, so I've been a little all over the map.

I'm trying to stay as neutral as I can until the debate, to see what the candidates have to say & how they hold up in debate b/c I need to see they'll be able to handle Burr, and to see if the Cunningham campaign will beef up their issues section (by adding DADT repeal &/or more content) & if the Lewis campaign will take a stance on DOMA repeal. But if I see no other website updates, I'm going to be hard pressed not to definitively take a side soon.

It would be a tragedy..

I ask everyone here to look at Mike Nellis' original post here. Look at the positions Elaine Marshall is taking on the issues presented. Are they not how we, here..the majority of us..feel about these issues?

She makes absolutely no bones about her postion on these things. She puts them out there, asks us to see them.

What's not to like?

It would be a tragedy to not have her run against Burrski (IMO).

Not on subject..YOU GO, PHIL

Phil Mickelson has won the Master's Golf Tournament with his ENTIRE family there...everyone must know that his wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. What a fabulous event..what a fabulous victory..what a fabulous story.

Sorry, guys. This got me teared up and I had to put it here. It's just just soooo great !!

I'm a big Phil Mickelson fan

Love the guy. That win was brilliant -- and for his wife.
