I haven't really covered earthquakes
much, but any geologist will tell you that introducing a lubricant into rock formations is likely to produce movement of some sort.
And a big part of the danger in doing that isn't the quake itself (most are micro), it's the potential release of high concentrations of previously sequestered deposits of naturally-occurring toxins and radioactive elements. Stuff like that can go from barely-noticeable levels to lethal concentrations pretty quickly.
