I'm bad with names to begin with
Stupid of me to assume, but I've been assuming that Dan B is Dan Besse. I also thought that user "charlotte observer" was the actual Charlotte Observer.
I don't know if this is just a personal problem, and I don't have a solution to propose.

Heh, I was thinking that for a bit, but when I saw Dan B. reference "slashdot," I thought, "Besse is cool...but not that cool. Can't be him."
well that's why I'm confused
I've been forming these pseudo impressions of who Dan Besse is, based on posts by Dan B. It's like a giraffe in a gecko's clothing (giraffes and geckos being connotation neutral, at least I hope so).
oh well silly of me to think there is only one Dan B in the world.

I think it was easy to think that b/c Dan B.'s posts are always thoughtful, above-the-fray, big picture...just like Dan Besse!
...unless it's a Clark Kent/Superman thing. Wonk-ish Lt. Gov. candidate by day/wonk-ish tech savvy blogger by night. But then I would think he would have a better disguise (though Superman did just use the glasses...).
Reminds me of a "Simpsons" episode where Principal Skinner is on the intercom, talking about something Lisa Simpson snitched on. It shows Lisa in her class reacting to his words:

It's not that easy
He moved into a house thats almost a mile away from the road. Time Warner offered to install cable and high speed internet for the modest sum of $17,000.
Ouch!
We had that happen to us a few houses back. We wound up going with Satellite interweb. It wasn't as good as cable, but it was affordable. Poor Christopher. Well, tell him I miss him.

No for real, if Art Pope walked on screen in a movie you had ordered from Netflix like a long time ago, but hadn't had a chance to watch until just now, and you don't remember why you're watching except for that you got to get through it so you can send it back and get the next one, you would know that the character Art Pope was playing would be a bad guy, because he just looks the part.

I love the triangle. There is so much to do up here. We have Camp Wellstone going on in Raleigh along with the YDNC convention at the same time. I want to move up here.

Notes from the YDNC convention
Person County Teens were well represented; we had two cars - 5 teens and 2 advisors. Woo hoo!! We had the second biggest group at the NCATD officer election breakout session. Woo hoo again!! (Linda, Linda, wherefore art thou??)
We sat in on a money raising breakout session with Jerry Meek as the speaker. A subject he knows well.
We wandered around and visited various candidates' tables. I was very pleased to see that all but one signed up to intern for Obama. (Pleased that they became involved.)
Pre-lunch:
Heard Richard Moore speak. Mostly good, positive stuff. Mostly.
Caught the last 5 monutes of the mayor of Newark speak on behalf of Obama. He was a very good speaker, and I expect to see him in DC should he desire that political path.
Kay Hagan spoke. Did well.
Perhaps some other speakers. Tricia Cotham and Ty Harrell MC'd for a while and did a good job.
Lunch and after:
Some awards and YDNC speakers. Brad Miller spoke briefly. Ty Harrel did a really good lead in intro for David Price, but then introduced him as David Miller. Chuckle.
James Carville was very good. Funny. Ending point was "Do not hesitate to favor People over Power."
John Edwards was very impressive, flawless even. Made me wish he was still on the ballot, and I have not been a big Edwards fan for a number of years. His speech was a summary of his campaign, and he was very supportive of both Clinton and Obama.
More awards and introductions. Most of the council of state candidates gave brief remarks. Jim Neal got about 5 minutes. Did fine. Was more energetic at SEC meeting.
Waited a bit. Then Chelsea Clinton took the stage. I was surprised by the fact that she followed her opening remarks by taking questions from the crowd town hall style. She knows her stuff, very articulate, well informed, a credit to the Clinton campaign. Could have used a bit more energy perhaps, but really did well. She handled the questions gracefully and, at times, with a gentle wit.
Had to leave to get back Person County.
Unity was a common theme and indeed I saw many people with both Obama and Clinton stickers on.
It was good to see many familiar faces (like Sam) and chat with many hard working democrats.

I took Emily last year (my 12-yr-old) and really wanted to go again this year. Unfortunately, I simply couldn't make it. It sounds like YD's did a great job again this year.

One interesting thing for me was that the first state teen dem president I met back in 2004 is a candidate for national college dem president, and another teen dem prez is now the state college dem president. Teen dems really does provide an introduction to higher level politics that can carry a young person to more influential offices.
I hope you feel better. At least the weather is crummy as well, so if you have to be in bed the gray and wet makes it a bit easier to take.

I have been swilling tea as if it were - tea - since last Wednesday.
Our teens are looking forward to the County Convention. They're also involved in collecting signatures for a District Attorney candidate to get on the ballot. He's running unaffiliated, but his son is one of our group, and in fact, the whole family are democrats. So they're learning how to canvass by doing that. It's pretty exciting for them. We reached the target signature number, but I told them we needed to go for 25% in case people weren't really registered in Moore County. They were shocked - shocked!- that people wouldn't know where they were registered.

I adore Hugh Laurie - I have since Black Adder days. I just finished reading a book he wrote - The Gun Seller. It was great, because I could "hear" his voice telling it to me as I read it. I highly recommend it.
