God, Guns, and Cannibal Dictators
The 2010 election season is shaping up to be a surreal journey into the nightmare world of the Twilight Zone, where nothing is what it seems to be and evil lurks right around the corner. The aura of Socialism! hasn't been so ever-present in our political debate since the days of McCarthyism, and the sheer number of citizens who are prone to this fear-mongering is much more frightening than that which they fear.
And the fact that one of our State Senators is jumping on the bandwagon with the hopes of reaping the political reward is both embarrassing and nauseating at the same time:
There is so much noise hitting us from all sides that I believe God has been put on the back burner too long! Internet, cell phones, corrupt television programs, dishonesty in politics and the church – where will this all end? If we would “love one another,” peace would abound. If you have an open relationship with your God, you wouldn’t have to worry. Is God your best friend? Your best friend will never abandon you. St. Padre Pio had a motto: “Pray, Trust and Don’t Worry.” Trust in the infinite goodness of Almighty God.
Do we need another major catastrophe to bring us again to our knees? We have allowed God to be taken out of our schools. If you listen attentively, many department stores and supermarkets do not play many or any religious songs during the Christmas season.
Are our freedoms as Americans being taken away? Do Americans believe in our constitutional right to bear arms to defend ourselves and families? Are we supposed to wait until government takes away our guns? When government takes away our guns, then the criminals will be able to take everything from us. Is this a democracy? Wake up, America!
Yeah, I know. Don't try to figure it out. One of the symptoms of schizophrenia is seeing connections where they don't exist, like between God and guns. Or between a popularly elected U.S. President and a brutal, inhuman and possibly cannibalistic African dictator.
Here is the image that adorned Andrew Brock's Wake Up America website:

And here is Idi Amin Dada in all his glory:

Of all the infamous African dictators, including Robert Mugabe, none come even close to the revulsion the average American feels for Idi Amin. For those younger readers who don't comprehend this, here's a little background:
In eight years, more than 300,000 Ugandans were killed. He enjoyed personally decapitating his enemies, and on one occasion he and a few family friends passed a pleasant farewell dinner with the severed heads of two opponents propped up at their places round the table. He had the second of his five wives murdered and dismembered, and then ordered the pieces retrieved from a burlap sack and stitched together so he could show her off to their children.
Asked about his cannibal appetites, he liked to complain that human flesh was a little too salty.
In addition to the President's head being superimposed on the body of Idi Amin, the image also contains the Star of David as part of Obama's logo. When called to task on this by Laura Leslie, our intrepid Senator had this to say:
In no way would I ever do anything that shows any disrespect to the Jewish religion or to my Jewish friends. The graphic was from a site from the UK that disagreed on Obama’s policies and his actions on the state of Israel. I am highly offended to say that I would ever do anything anti-Semitic. To post a story on something without getting the facts is irresponsible. My web editor did not interpret the graphic the way you did. He saw it as Obama disregarding the long standing relationship between the state of Israel and the US.
Which further demonstrates Brock's ignorance. The pic originated on TheTruthHurts.co.uk, which is a clearinghouse for conspiracy theorists who believe, among other things, that Obama and Israel are conspiring to spread Zionism/Jewish control worldwide.
Senator Brock, you can claim this was a mistake, and that one of your "assistants" didn't vet the picture properly. But that doesn't change the fact that you are engaged in an "anything goes" campaign to promote fear and hatred, and make money while you're doing it. You're an embarrassment to the State of North Carolina in general, and the North Carolina General Assembly in particular, and your Republican colleagues should treat you the same way they treated Cary Allred.
Until they do, the NC Republican Party is demonstrating clearly that they are not aware enough, mature enough, and sensible enough to separate fantasy from reality and lead our state government.

The Only Change The GOP Knows Is Short Change the Masses?
The NC Republican Party is demonstrating clearly that they are not aware enough, mature enough, and sensible enough to separate fantasy from reality and lead our state government*scharrison
True! But what changes?
Have the financial institutions that invested badly been cut off from government support and allowed to fail, teaching their successors a hard lesson about the real-world consequences of shoving people's money into the financial mystery loafs known as "derivatives" and "mortgage-based securities"?
Have federal housing and mortgage subsidies been eliminated, allowing home and housing prices to fall to a true free-market level? Have all artificial government wage and price supports and tax and regulatory discouragements on hiring new workers been repealed?
Have the gang of Goldman-Sachs-Federal-Reserve-Bank-of-New-York cronies who have run things, uninterrupted, through the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations been fired outright; the Federal Reserve Board closed; the FDIC that discourages investors from closely examining their banks' investment policies shut down; the power to mint money and set its value in gold or silver restored to Congress, producing a new, inflation-proof gold and/or silver dollar?
In fact, just as the Obama policies on Iraq and Afghanistan are nothing but direct extensions of the Bush policies on Iraq and Afghanistan (albeit accompanied by some new pathetic mewling about how ashamed we are to be doing these terrible things without the cooperation of the Swedes, the Norwegians and the French), so the Obama "bail out and stimulate" economic policies are nothing but the Bush-McCain "bail out and stimulate" economic policies, on steroids.
So how long is it we're supposed to wait for a new administration doing exactly the same stuff as the last administration, only bigger, to demonstrate the success of all this "change"?
Connie, either you really
don't understand the rules for attribution that we've laid out for you countless times, or you do and choose to break the rules. Which one is it?
The bulk of your comment was written by Vin Suprynowicz for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Where you got it from I don't know (or care), but it didn't come from your head.
I'm asking you once again, please use links and blockquote/quotation marks when you use someone else's intellectual property.
200 strikes and he's out
hopefully for the final time.

Connie,
Multiple BlueNC admins have had to admonish you multiple times. I've blocked several of your IDs and will be blocking this one as well. Do not create any other identities. All content you post will be deleted if you continue. We're done. I held off this time and have watched James, Steve and Greg repeatedly ask you to follow our rules. You have refused. You can threaten me and call me Hitler all you want to. I really don't care. Not only will we no longer clean up your messes, we will no longer allow you to make them here at BlueNC.

Connie and Gene
Maybe Connie can hang out with our friend Gene from up in Virginia
:D
Sounds good to me.

Have you thought through the pyramid scheme that's underlying the Wakers business model? The way I see it it, if I can talk you into giving money to a Republican Waker, then I get a cut of that contribution for my trouble. If I can talk a million people into supporting the Wakers, I can be a superstar and see my name in lights at the annual Awakening, which I'm told happens on nights of the the full-moon.
Prosperity gospel in a Tupperware Party, with Andrew Brock sitting smack-dab on the point of the pyramid.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Yeah, it's pretty strange
The first time I saw this:
I thought some get-rich-quick pop-up had popped-up on my screen.
But you know, at least with Amway and Tupperware there's actually a product you can hold after the transaction, albeit an extremely overpriced one. What Andrew's selling, on the other hand, is an opportunity to be involved in the further embarrassment of the Republican Party.
It almost makes me want to donate, just to see what idiocy they'll cook up next. Almost. ;)
If it walks like a duck...
"The aura of Socialism! hasn't been so ever-present in 'our political debate since the days of McCarthyism,"
You gotta be kidding me! You people lie to yourselves so much that you really DON'T believe that you, your President and Hairy Pelosi are flaming Socialists.
Fear not because the backlash from your Marxist reaching is "coming home to roost." The ignorant stooges rarely show up for midterms unless you and ACORN buy them something.
Ann, since you and Barry Goldwater share an IP
Why don't you stick with one account. Pick which one you want to spout nonsense from and I'll delete the other. Thanks.

Sockpuppets, trolls, and idiots, Oh my!
I thought it was a dup account, just wasn't sure which one.
Thanks for calling 'em out.
"Present and accounted for!"
"And look what I've got! A big bag of of those neat concave dipping chips and some eye-watering salsa, and it's...wait a minute. This is one of those sock-puppet-bashing comments, isn't it? That's just great. I'll be taking these damn chips home with me, thank you very much."
Layers of irony
...feel so good on a chilly day.
But the weather's warming up again - at least for a few days.
We are elated you are here AynRand
Your commentary tells us all here on BlueNC that we are following the correct lead.
Thank you for all you do for us.
Why Thank You!
The operative words are that "we are following the correct lead"...are you goose-stepping? :-)
Guess that sums up collectivism.
You listen to too much Fox News
AynRand, I'm someone that believes that "correct lead" means that I am following the direction of the new leadership in America. Your little post here is just something that comes out of some kind of Fox News presentation with the "goose-stepping" comment and such.
"collectivism"? Well, that's just like something else again, isn't it? Nothing I've said here goes to that and you're stretching it by trying to go there with it.
We appear to be at opposite ends of the political spectrum. And, that is fine. We all have to believe as we believe. But, in further posts to or about me, please do not make me out to believe or be something you want to make me out to be.
Thank you.
A Scary Place
The truth is that this world is quickly becoming a scary place. The worst part about it is that it is happening extremely fast and there doesn't seem to be anything that voters are able to do about it. casino en ligne
I guess the best we can do
is refuse to be scared?
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
The voters have ALL the power
"The worst part about it is that it is happening extremely fast and there doesn't seem to be anything that voters are able to do about it."
Actually, the voters are the ONLY ones that can do something about it, if they want to. No one else in America can.
It is up to us to make sure we put representatives in place that speak to our beliefs.
