Gov. Easley, what is going on?
I just read this article and at first I cried, but quickly became outraged.

Has this administrator been fired? Or at least put on leave?
Bev Perdue, what say you? Are you as concerned about this as about a few undocumented immigrants attending our schools at out-of-state rates? No commercials about this one?
Our mental health system is a disaster. If I thought McCrory would really do something about it, I'd vote for him.

That is outrageous
I don't know how big a facility that is, but it should be shut down. Negligence like that cannot stand.

Progressives are the true conservatives.
The problem with closing it....
...is that they'll be dumped on the streets again. Been there, done that, didn't work.
By the way, according to comments left on the N&O website by family members, the dead man wasn't even mentally ill, but he had no health insurance so he was dumped at Cherry.
Don't know what McCrory would do
But I think a lot of voters might be concluding that the same folks have been entrenched in state government for so long that genuine oversight is lacking. The result is unhealthy for everyone (except the cronies), the Department of Health and Human Services is definitely exhibit number one in the case to be made for cleaning house.
But Dempsey Benton is no ordinary politician and deserves his reputation for being a mover and a shaker. It would be a shame if he were "shook out" in the event a new administration came to town. He is one of Easley's better appointments.
He can't fix everything and he can't fix a lot of it in the time left of Easley's term, but he's at least as qualified (probably better in terms of his temperament and intelligence)as else to turn things around there.

I'm not blaming Benton...
...or even Easley, really, except that he is governor and the buck stops there. All I know is this is a continual problem in NC and has been under several administrations.
I doubt the GOP would do better, probably worse, actually.
But it appears to me that some heads should roll over this. I'm all for giving employees the benefit of a doubt, but it appears to be really tough in this case to do so.
Perplexing move by Benton
Dome is reporting that Dempsey Benton has sent none other than Ann Christian to Cherry Hospital to . . . to . . . well I'm not sure, but it seems like an odd move to me.
Most recall, I'm sure, who she is and why she herself was recently removed -- I mean stepped down as director of Central Regional Hospital in Butner. She was then assigned a new job within DHHS in which she is supposed to "improve quality management and compliance wit regulatory requirements."
Well, there's no question that improvements are wanted at Cherry Hospital, but . . . by Christian?
