Hagan takes on obstructionist Republicans

Hagan: I didn't understand the complexity before how I got there of how you can use this procedure (filibuster) to delay everything. So I think that this year, I'd have to look up the number, we were at about 92 different votes where the Republicans voted no in moving forward any piece of legislation, which is way over anything from a historical perspective.

Go read the rest. Kay is remarkably candid, and pretty darn smooth.

And she's not alone

Vice President Biden says there's a lot not to like about the way the rules have been twisted and abused by Republicans.

He makes a good point.

At a DNC fundraiser last night, Biden said, via CBS News, "As long as I have served ... I've never seen, as my uncle once said, the constitution stood on its head as they've done. This is the first time every single solitary decisions has required 60 senators...No democracy has survived needing a super majority."

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a nuclear option is being considered to limit the use of filibusters.

Taking a closer look, though

There is more to this than meets the eye.

Always true.

This is an equal opportunity cluster flock.

That said, it still seems like a screwed up practice to me. I've always thought so, no matter who's been in charge.

Good use of words :)

"Cluster Flock" pretty much says it. I have been going to different sites to try to find a little short definition of the word Filibuster that shows how it applies to the U.S. Senate and found this.

The two "sides" have people that favor and people that do not favor this parlimentary procedure. It seem a bit antiquated to me, personally, and more a counterproductive measure than productive. But, that is just me.

Brrrrrrr

And don't forget, Richard Burr is part of the filibuster problem. Standing in the way of everything except his own outsized ego.

Obstructionism now available on iPhone!

What's really sad about this ....

is the fact that so many realize that it doesn't work for a 50 state Republic of over 300 million people! This was set up when there was a handful of states, with a good chance of getting a concensus on the issues of the day. But what we don't hear is how to fix it! And this has really been typical of our lack of political leadership.
