Hairdresser Joe Denies "Bad Touching"
From The Pilot:
State Rep. Joe Boylan says allegations of improper advances on a female House colleague are "untrue" and "baseless."
He also says the woman has disavowed the accusation, although The Pilot was unable to reach her for comment Tuesday night.
In the interview with David Sinclair, managing editor of The Pilot, Boylan blames supporters of Richard Morgan, who he defeated in last year's primary for these allegations. Personally, I wonder what Morgan would have to gain from that, but - whatever.
From The North Carolina Conservative:
The North Carolina Conservative finds this notion of “handling it quietly” unacceptable. Not only does the press have a duty to report the misdeeds of our legislators, but “public servants” should not impede efforts to inform the voters. According to many sources with whom we spoke regarding this story, Boylan’s behavior has become increasingly troubling over recent months, following the incident in which he passed out on the floor of the House. Boylan blamed his blackout on a virus, but recent revelations may cause one to question that explanation. One very highly placed source told us that, “the Leadership is giving him an ultimatum; he will either go to rehab or resign.”
What does Hairdresser Joe have to say?
Boylan blames Almond's situation for perpetuating the rumors involving him, which he said had died down.
"That is what gave this story legs," Boylan said.
Boylan said rumors were also being spread about his supposed dating of young female pages several weeks ago. He said his daughter, Jessica, served as a legislative page and that the two of them ate dinner together at a number of restaurants during the week.
And
The NC Conservative story also called into question the episode earlier this year in which Boylan fainted on the House floor and had to be taken to a hospital. Boylan maintains that he was sick with a virus.
"I was dehydrated," he said Tuesday. "I was not passed out drunk."
Boylan said he was not concerned about any possible political fallout from the North Carolina Conservative article and media coverage about this allegation.
"My primary opponent next time, if I have one, will no doubt try to use this," he said. "But I am not worried about baseless allegations that have been denied by the person who supposedly made them."
I apologize for the patchwork-y-ness of this post. It's 3 a.m. and I just got home and found this article on the online version of Wednesday's Pilot. I'm sure there will be more to follow.

Rule 1 in Republican weird politics.....DENY! DENY! DENY! And than if you are caught, Then blame it on the Morgan Devil!
Hmmm.
Well, he actually does a pretty good job explaining it all away, which doesn't mean it's true, but he does explain it away.

Oh yeah - c'mon down.
I think it's interesting that Boylan is blaming this on his enemies within the Republican party - in particular supporters of
Richard Morgan - for the rumors surrounding him. Richard Morgan has become the Republican bogeyman here, whose name is invoked every time the Pope-ites (not Roman Catholics) don't like something that has happened. It couldn't possibly be their own bad behavior. It must be..... cue scary music ...Richard Morgan!!

There have been rumblings about this
for a while, including here. I was surprised it took the Pilot so long to address the issue.
Just because I think he's a tool doesn't mean I think these stories are true, but they are certainly part of the line coming from certain factions of the Moore County Rep Party right now. Whether they are political fabrications or political opportunism, we can be sure these stories will be an issue in next year's election.
A little confusion
Are there more factions than Morgan/Pope? I ask because it seems like NC Conservative wouldnt be the type of place to take rumors from Morgan supporters and call it truth, rather they seem like they would be much more supportive of Boylan.
I know he has been rather useless, but he hasnt really done anything to make Conservatives upset has he?
"Keep the Faith"
I'm a bit rusty
on the details, but I can remember there were at least three distinct factions the last time I paid much attention. They weren't/aren't always against each other. I kind of remember that at least two of the factions were Richard Morgan and George Little (who some may recall ran for Governor last time). Former Governor Holshouser is still active, and being Boylan's campaign manager obviously was not in the Morgan faction, but I'm not sure if he is buddies with George either.
Most of what I remember (or don't remember) was from a few years back when both the Reps and Dems were valiantly trying to destroy themselves from within. That was one of the reasons I was and still am proudly Unaffiliated.
Morgan didn't win many friends
within his party for cooperating with Democrats and actually accomplishing things as co-speaker with Jim Black. Weird how different it is to type that name now, eh?
As for internecine warfare in the parties, I can report with a degree of certainty that the Democrats, at least, have realized that we can accomplish far more standing together pointing in the same direction rather than pointing the finger at each other. There are occasional differences of opinion - we're Democrats, for goodness sakes! But our new party chair, Brian Deaton, seems to be quite good at coalescing unity out of disparate groups. I'm looking forward to the next two years.

What's the deal with the two websites?
There's mcdem.org and moorecountydemocrats.org. Both appear to be official sites. The latter seems to be more up to date
The latter is the official one.
We've tried to get mcdem.org taken down for a year, and have been unsuccessful. Things tend to float around in the interweb for a long time. www.moorecountydemocrats.org is the official site of the Moore County Democratic Party. (It was designed by my husband, btw.)

I'm not sure if the stories are true or not
But the rumors have been around long enough that it was time that Boylan addressed them. Of course he was going to deny them. This is the first time I've seen the female legislator identified. The NC Conservative also mentioned a female lobbyist - but doesn't identify her. Just as troubling as the sexual harassment allegations are the allegations that he has been inebriated on the floor of the NC House.
In a legislative sense, even worse than those allegations is how ineffective he has been in representing Moore County as a whole.

seriously
given his record early on, maybe he should claim inebriation, so that we dont harass him for being useless
